Default January / February IVF cycle buddies: Lucky 2013!

I got my IVF booklet in the mail today. We are actually doing ICSI as we're using donor sperm.

I have been given the choice of Synarel spray or Lucrin injections. Is there any difference in effectiveness? Because I'd rather avoid injections if I can, but I'll take the Lucrin if it's going to work better!

Haha, I'm on Synarel right now, and I would choose an injection over that in a heartbeat! It tastes awful. It is convenient to carry a nasal spray though, especially when travelling for work...which I am doing today. Sorry, I don't know about effectiveness.

I'm curious about why you need to do ICSI with donor sperm? We do ICSI, but it's because we have MFI.

I have heard that the synarel can cause nasty headaches but have only used lucrin myself. May I ask why are you going straight for the long down reg cycle? I would choose a short cycle if possible, I found the only long cycle I did sent me crazy - the lucrin made me really emotional and on edge and I got the worst results of all my cycles egg numbers wise as well, I think because I was so stressed on the lucrin. From memory the lucrin needles are just insulin needles so you can't even really feel it so from that point of view and having heard other ladies complain about synarel headaches if you have to go for a long cycle then choose lucrin....

Erin because all donor sperm is frozen, and sperm reduces in quality upon freezing and defrosting, they use ICSI to try and improve fertilisation rates.

That's hilarious! We are also going through Genea and while doing ultrasound today hubby looked up at the screen and said it looks like a computer game! What the! I almost killed him! Made me laugh though! Gosh hubby's can say some funny things! I"m, not sure how many there are. Havnt really asked though will ask on saturdays. EPU is Sunday or Monday, I can't belve how quickly how time has passed. I sort of can't wait as I am now getting tum pain

We had a scan yesterday I still only had 3 big ones from 20-29mm and about 50 less than 10mm. We had our trigger last night and we are now on our 6hr journey for a 7am EPU at Genea tomorrow!

I have a funny and way too intimate story to cheer u all up. So yesterday while I was having a scan where I noticed a dark area. I asked the sonographer what it was, he paused and proceeded cautiously "that is a large pocket of...bowel gas". Well hubby and I lost it laughing. When I laugh, my whole body jumps around so the probe was jolting around with each outburst. I even had to imagine all of my loved ones dying (horrible I know) dying to stop but it only lasted a moment or two. The sonographer caved and also started to laugh hysterically. I told him to "get it out, I can't do this anymore" (he had almost finished anyway) and we left in stitches! OMG for some reason it was just so funny and then I had this giggle fit I couldn't control. And it was my birthday so I'm allowed to be silly! Haha

Well I hope you are all keeping well and will check in again tomorrow with the results of my EPU. I am hoping for all of us our much deserves BFPs! Xoxo

Bindy ahahaha.. that is hilarious!! I am lucky I couldn't see the screen..

Rainbowbaby. I had the choice of doing synarel or Lucrin for my trigger shot (I am on a short cycle). I chose the Lucrin just because it seemed more straight forward and I was so used to doing it. Plus, I could remember reading threads where ladies had complained about how awful synarel was. I am glad I chose it. It hardly hurt at all really.

EPU tomorrow morning. I am hoping I don't get any OHSS symptoms! That's the reason they changed my trigger from Ovidrel to lucrin- to prevent getting sick- but also meant no transfer next week. Not entirely sure how that works?! But I am assuming I won't get sick, but maybe I still will. Anyone used the Lucrin as a trigger??

Long protocol is standard at our clinic, but especially because I am quite young they think my ovaries will respond really well to down reg and should be able to get a good, even collection of eggs.
