Default Mandarin playgroup in Carlton/Melbourne CBD Victoria?

Hi, I am Cindy and we are a bilingual family (English and Mandarin) living in Carlton. I am looking for a Mandarin playgroup so I can encourage my son to speak more Mandarin. I've been googling to see if I can find one, but there is none nearby and all the learning facilities are in Doncaster or Box Hill, which is too far for us to get to (we don't have a car during the day and with two little ones, public transportation can be difficult). Can anyone point me the way?

If there is really none in this area, I am thinking to start one myself. If anyone is interested, please let me know too.

    Thanks!

I know there is one in Kensington, which isn't too far from Carlton. I'm sure there would be others around the city of Melbourne, too, not all of them would be advertised. I would get on the city of Melbourne website and check out the playgroups page. Contact the playgroup field officer, her name is Kirsty and she is lovely- she found me the perfect fit playgroup

P.s depending on where you live in Carlton, the 402 bus runs down grattan st, and will take you right to the kensington playgroup in about 15 minutes.

Thanks FearlessLeader! I think 402 stops right outside our place. I'll have a look at the City of Melb website, and call Kirsty if I need to.

    Hi Cindy,
did you find a mandarin speaking playgroup in your area? I live in Port Melbourne and would love to either join yours or start one up in the area. Even perhaps a catch up once a week so that we can talk in mandarin and the babies can be immersed in an all mandarin speaking environment!

    Hi Ces,

Playgroup Victoria advised there is one in South Bank at the Boyd Centre. If you are interested, please contact Kirsty Bates-Webb at kirbat@melbourne.vic.gov.au. She can find out for you if they can still take member in. I couldn't join this one as its timing doesn't suit us.

I am still thinking to start one in our area (Carlton) - haven't thought about how it should be run yet, but if I start one, I will keep you posted. Wouldn't mind a catch up in the new year, please email me to discuss further.

    Cindy

Hi Cindy, I was wondering if you had found a Mandarin playgroup to join or you have started up one? I would be very interested in joining you as we are also a bilingual family (Mandarin & English) as well. I have two girls, age 1 & 3 year old and we live in Pascoe Vale South, which is not far from Carlton. So if you are still looking for a Mandarin playgroup, maybe we can have a chat about it. x Angel

    Hi Angel,

I haven't started a Mandarin playgroup as I have been bunked down by running a general playgroup for our church, so time is a bit sparse for me at the moment. However, I am still interested in joining one if there is one handy nearby on my off-work days (Fridays). Happy to have a chat about it with you , so just email me. Cheers, Cindy
