    Default Baby Shower Gifts

Before I write this post I'd like to say I know this will sound a bit ungrateful and I really don't mean to be!

I had my baby shower this past weekend and it was wonderful. I didnt open gifts during the shower, instead opened them later with DH. We ended up getting quite a few double ups, for example 3 Bumbos, 2 Nappy Bags and a few of those baby record books.

What is the proper etiquette in this situation? I didn't open gifts in font of the guests so obviously they don't know that I've received a few of the same thing, I'm sure if they had some of them would have offered to exchange or something.

I'm really grateful to all the guests and know they didn't have to give me anything so I'm appreciative of the generosity but feel that some of these gifts won't get used and It'll just be a waste of their money and I feel bad for that. Is it extremely impolite to mention to them that I received more than 1 of their gift and would they mind if I exchanged it or is this truly horrible? What is the correct thing to do?

As the gift giver, I would rather you ring and tell me you recieved multiples, seriously, 3 bumbo's? I got one for my baby shower and that was 1 too many I would be more than happy to exchange it for something you needed.
Why didnt you open your gifts at the shower? That is usually the best bit as a guest, seeing all the great gifts.

    Hmmmm.

On the one hand if I was your friend and had given you a double-up gift I would want to know so I could exchange it for something you would need. This is precisely why I keep reciepts for gifts. And I wouldn't be offended.

On the other hand, if I was in your position there is no way I would tell people 'hey, can I exchange your gift because I got double up' because it does sound rude, and I'd be worried people would think I'm lying and just didn't like their present. So I can understand.

So I don't know. I guess in all honesty I probably wouldn't do anything. And then after a while I would donate/give to others the double ups.

And what happens if a friend comes over and sees you using the purple bumbo, not the red one she gave you? Awkward.

Thanks MummaOJ, I know I should call and tell them but feel so awkward about having that conversation!

I ended up not opening the gifts because the weather was rainy/ windy so we had to put gifts in another room at the last moment and then it was too difficult logistically to bring them out, open, move back into other room etc, by that stage people were starting to leave anyway because of the weather so I don't think anyone minded.

It is. I think it's probably going to feel a bit awkward no matter what. Either way, even if it feels rude, I don't think either option is. It's not like you don't like the gifts. But who needs that many bumbos?

lol you're right WineTime, either option is going to come off rude but I feel like keeping all of them and never using them is worse, and yes if they see me not using their gifts and ask why it'll be just as bad.

Also with the nappy bags, I actually had my eye on a different bag and was saving up for it so i probably won't use either of the ones I received. Definitely don't know how to go about that one! And it's not like either of them were cheap either, both around the $100 or more mark. Seems like so much money to have sitting in the back of the cupboard. Feel so bad and ungrateful, I know they were all just trying to do something really nice for me which is why it's so awkward

I would just be honest! I don't know about you but my friends would rather me use something they have purchased than just have it sitting there collecting dust

And sorry to crash, what is a bumbo?! Lol

It's a colossus of man-made tom foolery and stupidy.

Seriously though, it's this kind of moulded rubber-esque seat thing that sits on the floor and babies sit in it. It's one of those items that people love or hate really. And sometimes people sit them on tables or chairs and the baby tips over.

    Ahhh, parenting shennanigans!

ROFL!! Love it! Not that I'm at all ungrateful for receiving them but it's not something I would've necessarily purchased myself, seems like a bit of parenting product overkill; and now I have one for every room of the house
