Just to be really infuriating, SMS is not technically an acronym; it's an initialism. Acronyms are those that can be phonetically pronounced, as in 'laser'.

I thought since we're debating the nitty gritty, someone should add this in :b

I have a friend who used to teach primary school. She always, always, even though I've pointed it out to her that she isn't pronouncing the word correctly.... Liberry. LIBERRY. It's the library!! Use the Rs, they're there for a reason! We are at uni, and we go to the library a lot, so this is a common occurrence. It makes my face twitch every time.

It is important. When applying for a job, employers read one line with errors and chuck the resume in the "no" pile. Our work is huge on spelling and grammer. Its one of the reasons I was hired 10 yrs ago. I could spell and use grammer correctly!

Eta: I read your second response lol!! All good!

I just read DD 3 bedtime stories and found 3 English errors.
    "round" for "around"
    "till" for "'til"
Starting a sentence with the word "and".
    *sigh*

You scratch your itch. The itch is the noun, the scratch is the verb.

Itchy and scratchy are both adjectives (and proper nouns if you're a Simpsons fan ).

When you pointed it out to her, did her face go all red like a strawbrary?
