    Default BYO meat and alcohol

If its an important party like my engagement or birthday or something we supply majority of the stuff like standard meat and a few drinks like wine, softdrink and beer.
If its just a small BBQ with friends I would supply salad and bread etc but usually they bring their meat and alcohol. I always have spare softdrink for guests.
When we go to BBQ with friends we always bring our own drinks and usually meat unless they say not to. We are happy to do pay for own, we can't afford to pay for others usually so we don't expect others to do so for us.

When we throw a BBQ we supply snag, hamburgers, bread and salad. If anyone wants something else they bring it and guest always bring some type of salad (like us they don't like to go anywhere empty handed)

I would never have a BBQ and ask guests to bring alcohol AND meat!!

If doesn't bother me if we are asked to bring our own food to BBQ though. Plus being vegan we bring our own anyway

I wouldn't be offended, but I wouldn't ask others to bring meat if I held a BBQ. Maybe alcohol but not meat or salads. I'm a bit old school on this lol I believe if you hold a party you provide the essentials.

    Same.

If we agreed to meet at a park or something and have a BBQ then BYO meat would be fine, but inviting someone over for a BBQ and expecting them to bring meat seems more than a bit cheeky.

Obviously different groups of friends have different arrangements and understandings, but as a general rule I wouldn't dream of inviting someone for a BBQ and expecting them to bring their own meat. It's like saying 'hey come over for dinner and bring the ingredients for XYZ'.

It depends how big the BBQ / party is. If its just 1 or 2 couples we supply everything and if its a big group with lots of couples we would supply snags and maybe a case of beer but say that they can bring other stuff if they wish

I don't think it's rude AT ALL. If it were NEW friends who we had never invited before then we would also supply everything. And possibly next time would say BYO and we supply all salads, snacks etc

I think it's rude of people to EXPECT to have that provided by the host. Unless the host says they supply everything

I wouldn't be offended, but would think it was a little strange TBH. Unless its normal within your group.

If I'm putting on a BBQ, then it was my choice so I always provide meat/bread/salads etc and some drinks - but tell people to BYO alcohol. If someone offers to bring a salad or dessert then that's appreciated, but not expected.

If meeting at a park or neutral ground though, then yes I would expect to take all of my own stuff.

BYO alcohol is okay IMO, but I'd still provide some drinks and always have non-alcoholic drinks on hand.

I wouldn't feel right about asking guests to bring booze AND meat though. I think meat should be provided. I do think it's okay however to let people know what meats you are providing in case they want to bring something different of their own.

If its a birthday party we dont let our guests bring anything but usually we'll have a casual bbq and we always offer to bring a dish and byo booze. Just the way we do it lol!

    Default BYO meat and alcohol

When we throw a BBQ we always provide sausages, rissoles, steak and chicken kebabs, a homemade potato salad and normal salad, buns and soft drink.

That pretty much covers everything except alcohol but usually someone brings something else along like pasta salad or damper dip.

ETA would not be offended in the slightest if someone asked us to BYO drinks or meat.
