    Default Toddlers with ear infections

Posted in this section as I am hoping for more replies

Miss 16mths has had an ear infection every month for the past 6 months. She is booked in for grommets in December. She is nearly finished a second course of antibiotics. The ENT specialist told me she is responding well to the antibiotics. There is no sign of infection but she still has fluid buildup behind her eardrums.

My question is....Is it the infection or the fluid that causes loss of balance? Her balance is dreadful and she falls over every 30 seconds, cries and is cranky.

Are they sure it's an infection and not glue ear? Middle ear infections cause loss of balance it's due to the fluid in the ear

It sounds like she has glue ear - a big cause of balance problems in children. It's great that she's having grommets put in soon - that should fix the problem up.

I believe it's the fluid build up that causes the loss of balance. Feel sorry for all of you. Ear infections are the worst. Hope everything improves with grommets.
