    What about Gabriella? With Ella as a nick name, that way you still get to use the name you like.

    I also like Amelia or Emilia - they can be shortened to Millie, or Emmy.

    March2013 there are so many names out there that you can shorten to Ella such as

    Isabella
    Elizabeth
    Ariella
    Eleanor
    Stella
    Marcella
    Elaine

    I'm sure there is more out there too

    My daughter's name is Ella. I wanted Eva but DH didn't like it.

    I would use Ella if you love it, if it ever comes up in discussion with your friend just tell her honestly that you've always loved it and thought long and hard about whether to use it given her daughter's name. It may not even be a problem for her!

    Probably the kids would love to be knicknamed "Ella and Bella" or whatever it is, they might even form a bond over it?
