    Default Horse racing

A friend posted this article on Facebook today in light of it being Cup Day.

    http://www.australiangeographic.com....study-says.htm

Basically it says there is some research to say that whipping horses is not only cruel, but unnecessary and ineffective.

I don't support horse racing because frankly, I can't feel good about horses being whipped for money and entertainment. That's my view. Thoughts?

I feel the same as you Atropos but unfortunately it isn't a popular view on BH as I have learned in the past

I hate the races. Same goes for circuses with animals.

Really? That's a shame. Is it because people don't think whipping animals is cruel? Or that it IS cruel but people don't care?

I went to an animal circus about 5 years ago, never again. They weren't whipped but it just made me so sad, particularly the big lions, performing. It seemed so wrong!

That's a good article hopefully it goes further and whipping will be banned. There are a lot of people that no longer use them but unfortunately there are still a lot that do.

It doesn't mean I don't like horse racing I just wish they didn't have to do that. I usually back a horse that they don't use a whip or doesn't really make sense but that's just what I do

I'm pretty certain last time (perhaps this time last year) those who didn't appreciate horse racing were told basically we're uneducated and know nothing of the industry and that they're the most loved animals in the world etc etc.

I just can't support an industry like this, not to mention the gambling side of it.

I am not a fan of it at all either. And I cannot stand gambling at all.

Pretty sure somebody linked a news article which had a picture of a dead race horse shoved behind a dumpster... what a privilidged life! Picture still haunts me.
