Default So confused with test results

    Hi,

I just got my test results back which I did 4 days ago and my HCG level is 4225 and then the reference ranges are as follows

    Gestation H.C.G
    1-2 weeks 50- 500
    2-3 weeks 100 - 5000
    3-4 weeks 500 - 10000
    1-3 months 1000 - 200000

so my doctor who is hopeless but i am new to the area and no one else will see me, just said you are 2 - 3 weeks but couldn't explain to me why I am not 3 - 4 weeks or 1 - 3 months when I am also in that range. I can't exactly remember when the first day of my last period was because I am so irregular. I know that I definitely haven't had my period for the whole of October which would make me atleast 5 weeks. This is our first child so of course I am freakin out a little about everything but I definitely don't want to get the dates wrong. Where can I go from here. What is normally the next step, an early ultrasound?

My doctor did this, I ended up being 6 weeks ahead of his guesses.

I still don't understand how it all works lol.

HCG varies greatly from person to person and shouldn't be used to gauge how far along you are.
If you don't know your dates you will need a dating scan. I'd get your GP to give you a referral. Don't ask, demand. You have ever right to a dating scan. Don't let the doctor shrug you off.

    Good luck.

I'd absolutely get a dating scan - you don't want confusion in dates when you get to 40 weeks.

Thank you all for that info. Can you have a dating scan at any time, don't have to be particular weeks in or not?

It's really best to have one before 7-8 weeks to get an accurate date.

After the HCG is over 1000 you should be able to see SOMETHING on a dating ultrasound scan. So yes, you can get an US now and it will help you with dating the pregnancy. i'd say with those levels you are between 5 and 6 weeks. You might not see an heartbeat yet but should be able to see a sac, yolk sac and maybe fetal pole.

If you have it now id say you will need an internal. If you wait a few more weeks you won't need one.
