Yeah mittens, and even socks really I preferred wonder suits if they needed socks.

Oh and I bought head bands so eager to have a girl to put them on and I quickly worked out if she fell asleep I'd have to carefully slide it off because I'd not leave it on her asleep in case it slipped down

Electric swing and vibrating cradle. She hated the swing so I bought an identical one that jiggled instead of swinging. She hated that too.

    Mittens and socks.

    Lotions and potions.

Breast pump only got used for first month before we switched to formula.

Maternity pads - I had hardly any bleeding at all.

Oh yes, J&J didn't use that stuff. Threw it out as I didn't even want to give it to someone else to use lol

Default Things you never ended up using with your first!

Nappy bin - pointless. socks - too hot and always fall off anyway. beanies - midwife said not to use them as they need to be able to regulate their temperature through their head. Bought too many 0000 clothes and hes grown out of them at 3 weeks old. Have used them all though.

On the other side, what I found most useful was that I bought so many nappies and wipes cos we go through a gazillion a day, my bassinet my MIL insisted on buying I was adamant I wouldn't use and its been so handy, a swing, lots of blankets (he pees through all clothes and blankets a lot). Oh and bottles and pump

Best tip I offer new parents (and no one ever listens) unless you live a zillion Kms from your local k Mart/baby shop buy nothing but bare essentials once you find you need something- breast pump, rocker, etc etc go but it- we were mega broke with bub number 1 so started with nothing and realised how much crap is truly out there. I laugh reading posts in my due in group on what you "have" to have to bring a bub home. All you need is a car seat, somewhere to sleep them and a few gro suits and nappies. Everything else is an extra

I have used practically everything mentioned here, apart from mittens.

Swing, capsule, baby bath, bassinet, change table, carrier (two types!), pram- every day!

We did get too many blankets and wraps though. We used woombies and now Gro Bags.

I didnt buy much at all, everything I did buy I have used a lot eg portacot, stroller, ergo carrier, swing pump, ebay second hand gender neutral clothes.

Stuff we were given that we havent used are:

30 various stuffed toys.... Most with tags stating '3 years +' so now i have to store them all for 3 years! Maybe I will re-gift or donate some of them to charities with christmas coming up.
    knitted and home made clothes.
newborn 0000 clothes.... I knew my baby wouldnt be small but people insisted on buying small stuff.
a big rocker.... We already had a second hand one that suited DS better
Baby bath products and moisturisers...i only use natural products
