If you were my 'friend' and did this I'd be very very ****ed off and I don't think I'd ever forgive/forget and our 'friendship' would never be the same.
I think you are being a b!tch to be honest.

Err.. I dunno? I know a lot of kiwis, and none of them would expect this.

Tbh, if I knew this is how you were feeling, I'd tell you not to worry about coming to the wedding. Or contacting me ever again. This is the approach I'm taking with my wedding, which is going to be an interstate one.

I don't think you're being very fair on other Kiwi's.

Given that she's offered her car, you are being completely unreasonable. I don't think it's an Aussie/Kiwi thing.

True. I don't think you can use the excuse that this is a 'cultural' thing.

Is your friend a kiwi? Cos if she is, you just blew your own theory right out of the water

This is a really odd thread. I have LOTS of kiwi friends. In fact I have LOTS of friends from all over the world. IT is bad manners not to attend in any culture I would think......

As a random thing, perhaps think of the repercussions of not going. I hope your friend is a lot more forgiving than I am.

    - You're catching a plane to NZ, originally to go to her wedding. Your place is paid for, etc.
    - You're then catching another plane (even though your Mum is paying for it) to go and see other people.
    - You aren't attending her wedding because you cbf travelling for an hour.
