    What do you mean pull his socks up? I think you need to talk to him now and tell him exactly what he needs to do, or he's out the door. Otherwise what will happen is it will all quieten down, he'll put in a bit of an effort for a little while and then it will all start again. It's not enough for him to just be not a douchebag, he needs to ACTIVELY try to make this work, starting with apologising to you and DS for the way he's treating you, followed very quickly by taking steps to address his emotional abuse of you. These problems won't just go away just because he says they will, or even just because he wants them to. He has to actually actively work on changing his behaviour.
    Sorry, I really don't think he's going to pull his socks up.
