    Default Fiji taxi travel

    Hi.

I'm in the process of planning a short trip to Fiji for a friends wedding (bubs will be 4 months) and I just thought about the fact that we'll need a taxi to get from airport to resort and back again. That's the only car travel I anticipate but I just thought what do I do in terms of baby traveling?!
The car seat we have is massive and bulky, and would we need to take that? I googled but couldn't come up with much... Someone posted on a forum that a few years ago they just had to travel holding baby...
We have been to Fiji earlier this year and yes the roads are crazy, but the drivers seem to know where the bad pot holes etc are... But still. I don't want to be breaking the law but need to work out what I need to sort out before booking.
Has anyone travelled to Fiji with a newborn before and if so, what did you do???
    Thanks

If you have to travel in a taxi without a car seat I would suggest having bub in a sling or carrier (in an accident you could not keep hold of your baby in your arms).

I would be contacting the hotel for a private transfer rather than taking a taxi.

What jenga said. Or hire a car, its really cheap in Fiji. 99% of the cars/taxis in Fiji wouldn't pass a roadworthy here and definitely don't have baby seats. I'd go for a private transfer or car hire.

    Default Fiji taxi travel

If you are staying at one of the resorts on Denarau, there is a driver who services the local resorts called Wanga.

If you ask the resort (he is well known) they could provide you with his number? We only visited Fiji 2 weeks ago, also for a wedding.

He has a nice air conditioned 4wd and he provides a baby seat on request. He is a very safe reliable driver & he only charges $5 more than one of those crummy old yellow taxis (it's true that they wouldn't pass rego over here!).

Good luck & enjoy the trip

God we hated the taxi drivers when we were there!
We literally feared for our lives with some of them.

The hotel would surely have someone who does the transfers.
I know ours did from airport to hotel to airport.

Hey, we went Fiji when DS was about 9 months old, we organised a private transfer through our resort-(it ended up being a new Landcruiser Prado), DS sat on my lap with the seatbelt wrapped around the both of us. I agree with a PP, a sling would work well with a 4mo.

I was also made aware afterwards that you are able to request a vehicle with a baby seat (friends did this a month after we went), so maybe look into that as it would obviously be much safer.
