Default What do you guys do

When your toddlers just refuse to listen. I swear iv told my 2 to leave the birds alone now 7-8 times today! Iv even given them a smack on the bum because they were trying to take all the bird toys down in the cage. We have only had the birds a few days and they are babies. They are very lovely little things but I'm afraid my kids will turn them ferrel if they don't start listening. I moved the cage to the top of the freezer and the kids got chairs when I wasn't looking... Tere little kid dinning table set thing. What do you do in this pos?

No idea on the listening front, having the same issue lol.
I'd put some sort of hanger in the wall and put the cage on that as high as you can or outside where they don't have access.

I had to put our bird up, ds kept wacking it with it's perch,

When he is not listening in general i get down to his level and take his face, turn it to mine & clearly and strongly say what i want from him, i also use the 1,2,3 magic aproach,

I ask to him to stop x or a time out will happen, i then count silently in my head to 10, then i move on to two and again count before moving onto 3,

If i reach 3 i move him away from whatever he is doing and make him sit down.

He hates going into trolleys etc so when shopping i let him walk but he knows if i have to chase him he will go into the trolley.

Generally though i find if he has decided 100% that he is doing something he will continue to do it unless i remove the item from reach

This reminds me of my own childhood - when I was 6 I was given a budgie. My younger brother (2 at the time) would continually tease the poor bird, wiggle his perch and poke things at him. My mum tried all sorts of things to stop my brother but after a few weeks, the budgie was given to another family. I hope you have better luck and don't have to rehome your pets.

Put the children in their rooms to sit and think about listening to you. May take a few attempts, but hopefully vigilance will pay off.

Perhaps they will listen when the birds nip them? ;-) My 18 month old knows to look but don't touch at our birds as they have nipped him before. So he stays away!
