we were going to assume about 5K to set most things up (i.e. the expensive stuff like pram, cot, carseat , furniture) and i think our doctors fee's will be about 4k so we're assuming about 9K (Just like Elijah's Mum!). If i cant get some thing 2nd hand though, that might save a bit. You can get some great 2nd baby items online these days on ebay, gumtree, buyswap&sell etc.

Default Re: **spin off** baby bonus thread - how much did you NEED to set bub up?

    Gosh I can barely remember.

Cot & basinette- hand me downs $0
    Cot mattress- $150
Car capsule- around $250 I think
    Pusher- $400
    Pram- $100 (off gumtree)
    Bouncer- $100
    Other stuff- $500-$1000 approx.
    Baby clothes/maternity clothes- $500 approx

So around $2k, but would have been a lot more if we hadn't got the cot and bassinet.

Baby #2 I've bought a new bassinet as the old one busted. $200 And i splashed out on a baby swing which I didn't have with DS $200. A few more maternity clothes as I've been UTD in a different season $200. I've bought a couple of outfits just for fun $100. And that's it. Eventually we will have to get a new cot mattress $150. So under $1k.

Oops ETA I got a double pram off ebay for $80 (score of the century)

    For us...

Cot - free - second hand from my cousin
Pram - gift from DHs grandma
    Cot mattress - $110 (new)
    Change table - $120
    Bedding - about $70
    Basinett - $25 second hand
    Basinett matress - $20 (new)
Bouncer - free gift from my bro and sil
    Toys - all gifts
Clothing - all gifts or passed down second hand
    Car seat - $60 ( have since purchased a safe n sound meridian $500)

Most other bits and pieces were gifts or we bought as we went along as DD needed them

Thats about it i think. You really dont need that much realistically.

Default **spin off** baby bonus thread - how much did you NEED to set bub up?

It depends what you want. I don't do the designer prams/cots etc. so it wasn't much, but I can't remember exactly now as it was 5 years ago.

I bought my cot from target on special for $150 and my son has just outgrown in, but it will last this next baby.

I bought a steelcraft pram for maybe $250 brand new. It didn't last 2 children, but only because of mould.

Baby seat was $400 maybe, but that was a gift from my mum and dad.

I also had a bassinet brand new which cost $100.

Change table with combined bath $150

They were the big items, maybe a few hundred on clothes, blankets, wraps, toys, play mats, swing etc.

Default **spin off** baby bonus thread - how much did you NEED to set bub up?

I spent WELL over 5k. I got rid of everything last year because we weren't going to have more kids. Now that I'm pregnant again we will need to buy everything.

List of what will need for coming baby (list of what I did buy for DD would take too long haha)

    Car seat $500
    Cot $500
    Mattress $150
    Charge table $300
    High chair $300
    Carrier $200
    Monitor $200
    Chest of draws $300
Pram (first one was $1200 next will only be about $500)
    Breast pump $200 minimum.
    Bottles/sterilisers $100 minimum.

    That's just the standard necessities

Nowhere near 5k. Our cot cost $200 from Kmart and is still going strong 2 babies later, change table was $120, we have 3 car seats (2 newborn to 4yrs, 1 convertible booster) which cost about $460 for all 3 on sale, $30 high chair etc

It doesn't hqvr to cost much at all.

We were given a bassinet, cot, change table, high chair, clothes, pump, bath, toys, wraps, carrier.

I bought the car seat, cot mattress, nappies and switched to MCN at 10months. All up probably under/around $1000-1.5k but the expenses don't stop when they're babies. Lol.

The baby bonus/parenting payment were the only money I was receiving and I made it stretch the whole year paying for rent, nappies and anything DS and I needed. DP didn't help out much financially until we moved out and got a joint account..

For number 2 we need to get a new car seat for DS, some smaller nappies, a new pump and I would like a different carrier. Probably a hugabub or manduca.

Wow.. I can't believe how much some people spend/have spent.
I reckon i easily spent under $1000 each time. Some of the stuff i bought barely got used either and i could have done without as well.

I bought an expensive pram and still think I would have spent under 2k. The car seat for grandparents may have tipped us over, but not by much.

Default **spin off** baby bonus thread - how much did you NEED to set bub up?

I did buy some second hand stuff for my first, but will be replacing some of it as it just didn't last my first and I have doubts it will last my second.

I shopped around a lot to get the bargains too.

For me baby bonus was more replacing my income for the first baby. For my second I'm in a different situation work wise but have counted it as leave so I can plan my time off. I enjoyed being home fulltime for 3 months with my first an am wanting the same with my second
