Well I personally think that the baby bonus is a bonus that you don't earn. Sure $5k would be nice, but if its $3k sobeit.

ML you have earnt and are entitled to every cent.

If one should go it should be the BB IMO.

It's one of those things that are easy to axe. I'd much rather the BB be reduced/removed than other vital services have cut backs.

Default Cuts to baby bonus to balance budget

the taxpayers - which I assume most of us are part of - are paying for the population to grow and keep working and creating values so that they keep paying tax and support us when we are old and grey :-)

if we follow your reasoning then why should the taxpayer pay for public school?

Let just have a birth deficit in Australia and get migrants to fill the need for (qualified) workers. I'd be happy with that being a migrant myself

PS : I don't think the baby bonus was/is the best system but any country needs to support their families somehow

Doesn't bother me. In the end, every cent helps whether it be 1k or 5k.

If I have more children, I will have to buy everything as everything was given away but I am also in the position now to get ML instead of the BB which is much better for us anyway.

You don't NEED 5k to buy everything a baby 'needs'
    You don't even NEED 3k,

It's a bonus woohoo, i don't get the spazz people have when the bonus is altered.

I do agree though that *maybe* we should NOT raise pollies wages, NO ONE NEEDS 500k- mil + a year in a wage

    Sounds good to me!
I'm happy to contribute my tax bill to schools, health etc. I just don't think that the bb is necessary. Really, how ridiculous, paying people cash to have babies. Now paid mat leave, that's a different story.

    I'm with BRV. Good.
And seriously, $500k to a million? I don't think so. Pollies get paid decently but they would be paid a hell of a lot more in equivalent private positions. I don't have a problem with pollies earning a decent wage, if we didn't pay them well, who would do it? People who CAN'T get a job in the private sector at that level? Sounds like a terrible idea to me.

The gouvernement should ******line the baby bonus/PPL process and have 1 system for everyone - means tested.

Moreover they should do the work and offer better childcare services.

I personally don't get the Bb so not fussed about the change. :-p
But I think about the big picture!
