Do you not feel entitled for all the things you use in society which taxes pay for?

Although I agree with PPs that it's unjust that some people may not qualify for PPL due to casual work or unemployment. maybe they need to review the criteria.
If they are unemployed they aren't missing any extra money? PPL is to cover wages lost while being heavily pregnant/ having a newborn. A person who is unemployed has no wages lost and would already be getting unemployment benefits which don't stop just because someone's having a baby.

As for casual workers.. I'm a casual worker and I get PPL. Just need to prove you work a certain amount. Maybe they could do an average of what you earn over the previous year for casual workers.

I sure do. And I would feel entitled to the BB too if I didn't qualify for PPL. This comment was in response to someone saying they are "disgusted" by the sense of entitlement people have towards BB.

They should cut it at the 3rd baby or you get family's who sit at home and have 11 and get 5 grand for each baby.
It's not luck people! It is called redistribution. Ie. WE pay taxes then it gets redistributed to US. It's not dropping from the sky...
Anyway, the australian system that is suppose to support families is crap. BB/PPL/FBT, they should just ******line it and distribute to ppl who needs it.

I could have gotten the BB and we don't need it at all.

For mum that work : free/cheap childcare and paid parental leave for everyone (in France we get 16/18 weeks paid at your full salary for your first 2 kids then 26/28 wks for 3d and over).
Not sure what's the best system to support sahm.

I wasn't saying it was luck. We should just be grateful that we get anything at all. Yes we pay taxes but in other countries you pay taxes and get stuff all.

PPL has also only just come in, before that lots of women who earned too much didn't get any baby bonus (rightfully so). I dont really think you can compare PPL and BB as they are totally different. Its a bonus, not an entitlement. If you have 3 kids, thats 15k that is a LOT of money, much more than most other countries get.

I think the baby bonus should be about 3k to start and go down after each kid. It was really only brought in as incentive years ago for women to have more babies to combat the ageing population.

I will have spent about 30k before my baby is born on IVF, obgyn fee's and stuff for baby. Ces't la vie, i don't expect to be reimbursed by the government. Baby bonus is that, a bonus. If it wasn't around (or before it was around) then there are other welfare payments to help. I'd rather the means test for the BB was lowered so it only went to those really in need.
