    Default TTC whilst breastfeeding

I'm sure this has been asked before but how have others gone ttc while still breastfeeding? I asked my doctor and he said that if you're getting periods, you're ovulating so you can fall pregnant. I'm usually pretty regular with periods averaging 28-30 days but I got my period back when my son was 3 months (he is now 7.5 months). So I think i've had about 3-4 periods since having him, but my last cycle was 40 days and i'm on day 29 at the moment for this cycle.

Is pinpointing ovulation the main key to it? I've got a maybe baby but haven't seen ferning on it yet, but it's too late in my cycle to be ovulating i'm sure.
So just thought i'd ask others experience on ttc when breastfeeding.
Was is successful? Were your cycles irregular? How long did it take to conceive?

Subscribing as I'd also like to know.
I haven't got af back yet though, but for when I do it'd be good to know.

    Default TTC whilst breastfeeding

I conceived when breastfeeding but my DS was 14 months old and only having one or two small feeds a day and my AF returned at the beginning of the year and it was regular.

To get pregnant I used the SMEP and used ovulation sticks I got off eBay to pinpoint when I was ovulating and I fell pregnant straight away.

How often are you feeding? Is your baby on solids yet? This will affect things. Good luck!

I was still feeding 4 times a day when I fell preggers. DD was 6 months at the time. I got my period back at about 3 months pp but things were a bit irregular. We didn't try too hard but I based dates off my LMP And on a dating scan there was just under 2 weeks difference in date. I'm 7 and a bit weeks now. I'm down to 3 feeds a day now and will see how far I get before weaning as I am exhausted. Good luck.

I think my body suppressed ovulation and/or implantation whilst I was breastfeeding, up until about 17/18 months when I fell pregnant. We were TTC every month from 8-17 months (9 months). I do think breastfeeding impacted on my ability to fall as definitely had the timing right. But, all in all, babe gradually cut back and now I'm very happy with the gap we will have and also glad my b/feeding relationship with my daughter was not compromised for another babe.
Though it's DAMN hard to be patient!

Thanks everybody, I'm still feeding fairly regularly 3-4 hourly during the day, probably 5-6 hourly at night. But he is on solids 3 times a day aswell. I guess we will just have to wait and see, i'm not expecting it to happen immediatly and plan to wean DS by 12 months anyways so I guess i'll let you's know how we go
