    Default Baby Shower Book Gift

A friend of mine is having a baby shower in a few weeks. This is her second child, but there is a 9yr age gap between children. She said if we insist on bringing a gift (which I do) to make it a book of some sort...she also said it doesnt need to be a baby book, just a book for a child of any age.

I was thinking of getting a couple of books that I loved when I was little (Hungry Caterpillar, Possum Magic, Soup From A Stone etc.) but dont want to get any that are too main****** as she might get a few copies of it.

SO, Ive thought that for one book I will get Dr Seuss 'My Book About Me' ...I still have mine that I filled in when I was 5 and I think its adorable to look back on.

Does anyone have an other recommendations of great 'classic' books that arent too main******? I dont want any that are too grown up as Id like her to be able to use them soonish. Looking at spending about $40 all up for a few books...EBAY!
Also, does anyone else think this is a good idea or does someone have a better idea for a gift?

Just had a thought...is Peter Rabbit still main******? I remember having a few Peter Rabbit books. DS has them but only because I handed them down to him.

Also, my friend is having a girl.

I would love of someone bought me Peter rabbit books!
The only one I can think of right now is:
Hippopotamous (sp?) on my roof eating cake
there is a whole collection of these as well

My absolute favourite children's book was Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. I still have my copy but its falling to bits so I bought another for my boys, we read it recently and they love it too.

I am ashamed to admit I have never read either of those, though I know they are childhood classics.

Check out a website called fishpond for cheap books.
There is a great series of books called 'How Do Dinosaurs....' by Mark Teague and Jane Yolen. Younger kids really love them. Also, the Dr Seauss books are all awesome.
For older kids the Enid Blyton books are great like the magic faraway tree and the wishing chair.
