Default Why is it so hard...to loose weight?

What else does it take? I have the knowledge, I have the self loathing, when I think about my size I cringe and this is a trillion times a day. Yet I always grab something crap to eat and always have an excuse regarding exercise eg today it was too hot. I have been making changes eg I quit diet coke from 1.5 liters a day to approx 2 liters a fortnight, and I've cut back on portion size...but it's not enough.

I know exactly what you mean. You want it, you have the motivation but there is just something missing. I have times when I find that missing piece and make progress and then I stop. It really is a mental shift of getting real and following through, thinking about it every moment to keep on top of food choices rather than just eating badly and then justifying it.

I don't know what the answer is suemp but if you find out let me know because it's such a roller coaster.

I think the self loathing is the thing that makes us fat then keeps us fat tbh.

I have no idea how to lose and then maintain weight on my own. I know I lack the self control to do it and that's why I ended up with surgery.

So, yeah, I have no answers. I still had to work at my loss but its a hell of a lot easier when you physically cannot pig out.

I wish you well on finding the answer and losing weight! *hugs*

Ive recently lost a decent amount of weight and still have a little bit to lose but what i could suggest is to not concentrate on the total amount you want to lose but rather break it down into 5kg goals. Look at every 5 kg as a major achievement

Its so easy to get overwhelmed and give up otherwise

I lost 20 kg last year, I knew I needed to, but had never truly pushed myself prior to that. I was just fed up with myself and very stressed out due to work, I knew I needed to look after myself better to get through it.
I cut sugar and got off the roller coaster of highs and lows I was on. It was the best thing I ever did. It's still hard and will be a lifelong journey for me, but it's so worthwhile.
I started out doing wii fit and biggest loser DVDs and highly recommend these for Mums. I also did the unthinkable and made these my top priority! The kids would watch a DVD on the pc and the housework would wait. I followed a diet similar to what I ate when I had gestational diabetes, still eating carbs, but balancing them out over the day.
    Best of luck.

I've decided to try & loose weight, doing a full diet & excercise change after trying to get new clothes today & hating having to see myself in the mirrors, just disgusting.

No more chocolate, junk food, milk shakes or fizzy drinks .

I got an excersies bike as i really struggle to walk for excersies as my ankles, hips & knees are weak.
