We plan on telling both my sets of parents before the week is out but want to do it face to face.

Thanks for all of your tips J! This is my first and I'm definitely feeling completely clueless. I'll be relying on you ladies a lot when I have questions!

Where is everyone from? I'm on the Central Coast of NSW although we will go to Newcastle Private Hospital to have the baby.
I am going to deliver at Newcastle Private too! I am due (from my calcs) about 13th July but will go at least a week earlier as it will be a planned C-section.

I am not telling anyone yet... I don't really know how to, after last time they were all so upset for me that I don't want to feel like they are watching for something to go wrong, so I think I will sit on my little secret for a while yet.

Question - I am taking a super dooper dose of folic acid due to the increased risk of another neural tube defect... but I also want to take a pregnancy multivitamin because, well I don't know, but I think you are suppose to? Is there any huge difference between Elevit and some of the less expensive brands?

So if anyone needs advice on labour and vaginal birth throughout your pregnancy feel free to ask - I love to help!

congratulations dream girl - I remember your journey from the ttc threads. I still at 8 weeks feel on top of the world and so blessed! as well as totally nervous to get through the 1st 12 weeks!

I am from Perth and will be birthing at the family birth centre which is a midwifery led clinic more for natural birthing - no epidurals eek! but it is attached to King Edward memorial hospital and you just transfer through if your labour is not progressing. I have private health insurance but have chosen to go public - Im probably a first!

How exciting! What OB are you with? I've called and made my appointment with Dr Oliver Brown. I've heard good things about him.

    Welcome dream girl

Thanks for your long post J I am taking Blackmores pregnancy tablets plus Caltrate plus Vitamin D supps (my first blood test showed my Vit D levels were a little low). No alcohol is no issue for me I am not a big drinker. I have also given up caffeine which I usually love so missing that. Time seems to be going so slowly for me cant believe I am 0nly 5+2 weeks. told my first person yesterday, a friend from my mothers group asked if I was pregnant (she knew we were TTC as she was as well) told her I was and turns out so is she! Due on the same day! So that was a pretty exciting conversation.

Its always nice to tell someone. I've lied to a few people and told them I am not pregnant as I am not ready for them to know. AFM six weeks along today. Nearly recovered from the bronchitis but now have thrush (Sorry TMI) from the antibiotics even though I have been taking inner health plus. Is rather annoying really.

Good luck Button! Post-graduate exams suck...I remember the 2 days of examinations and vivas for my first Specialist exams, and that was in a non-pregnant state! When do you get your results?
I agree...everyone should ask Button about L&D, because I openly admit I am way too biased! I like everything to be as clinical as possible...white coats, bright lights, etc! Only partly joking...!...but am a big fan of epidurals, given my Anaesthetics background. But I would never coerce my patients. Alot of women want normal vaginal deliveries, and my son was a vaginal delivery (with epidural and episiotomy and suction instrument delivery, because he was 4.6kg and I just couldn't do it alone!). But I am sure Button would agree that there always needs to be a "safety cord" to pull for a very fast transition to a Caesar in the case of obstructed labour and/or foetal distress.
Here's a question for you Button...what are your thoughts on using the "Epinoh" to stretch the perineum prior to NVD?...fewer episiotomies/tears, or still not enough data?

I am from SE Suburbs of Melbourne, delivering at the Epworth Freemasons. I loved it...the midwives were lovely to me, even though I had heard they can be mean to doctors who are patients! But they were very respectful and didn't seem to judge at all. For first-time Mummies, do you realise you need your OBGYN to book you into your chosen hospital NOW! They only take a certain number of patients due in a given month. Public is different, but just so you know.

J what do you mean about OB having to book me in now? If I've booked my OB and he only delivers out of the one hospital do I have to do anything else or will he take care of it?

Is it bad that I don't even want to attempt a vaginal birth? I want a c-section but to be honest, I don't really know much about the pros and mainly the cons of one. Care to share J?
