Default 1st birthday gift ideas that isn't a toy.

    Hi ladies,

DH and I are going to a boy's 1st birthday party on the weekend!

Not having kids ourselves yet, I'm a bit stuck for ideas on what to get as a present. I know toys are a favourite go-to, but I know they have SO many toys and I'm sure they'll be getting more.

So I thought I'd draw on the collective power of BH and ask:

what would you like as a gift if your DS was turning 1?

Default 1st birthday gift ideas that isn't a toy.

DD is 14mo and she absolutely loves books - the board books with lots of textures and flaps and things she can interact with. Look at the "That's not my..." series.

Going into summer maybe a "sun safe fun pack" with a hat, sunscreen, sun/swim shirt thingy and a water toy?

Or a cool wall hanging/kids artwork for his bedroom?

At 1 they don't really get it or particularly care about presents so even a "you made it through the first year" gift for mum and dad!

    Hope that helps...

A cute little outfit in age 2, DD1 recieved one for her first birthday as she was spoilt with toys and clothes it was nice to have for when she was bigger. Or a 1st birthday photo frame perhaps as its a little keepsake.

It's our little one's first birthday this weekend and we've got him a cake knife engraved with his name and birth date - the idea being we can give it to him on his 18th/21st (along with some other more age appropriate bits and pieces)

Thanks for all your replies ladies!

Ended up getting the parents a bottle of champagne to say congrats and a smaller present for their little one.

    Was a great day!
