Default The Christmas Ideas Thread 2012

    Hi all,

I LOVE CHRISTMAS! I am so excited for it! But I am struggling to get really pepped up as I am on a strict budget this year so am feeling a little uninspired and very overwhelmed by how many people I want to give gifts to. This is also mine and DPs first Christmas together in our own place, so we're excited about making our own traditions and memories.

So in this thread, let's share our ideas.

Ideas for homemade gifts or thoughtful ideas that don't cost a packet.
Ideas for Christmas decorations I can make to pretty up my house
Ideas for Christmas treats I can bake to take to Christmas parties etc.
Ideas for wrapping themes, tree themes, fun Christmas activities...

I need help with gift ideas for my parents, my nana, pop and grandma and possibly something small for aunts and uncles and kids aged from 13-1 (I will only be *buying* presents for the kids, everything else will be homemade if possible).

So - come forth and spread the cheer!

I should add - some of my family are Jewish, so give gifts but don't really go for the whole "Christmas" theme i.e. only my parents (and now me) have a Christmas tree.

Also, I can't use a sewing machine but I can cook, and make some things by hand.

So any non-Christmas ideas work too

However for the ILs, Christmassy is GOOD!!!

I am thinking about making a lemon/sugar body scrub for my aunties if I can find some nice jars to put them in.

Look on martha stewart's website, there's heaps of really nice suggestions. I'm super excited this year - Christmas with a three year old - does it get any better?

DD is getting a gorgeous 18" Steiner doll with Tibetan lambskin hair and a wardrobe of clothes for it and a wooden crib for it.

DS is getting lots of Thomas.

They're both getting a small stack of Duplo.

I really want a new tree this year (thicker, fuller, green) so FX DH gets a new job and I can buy one.

I'm planning on making two advent calendars over the next month and shopping for small treats and trinkets to put inside. My babies are still a bit young to understand an advent calendar, but it will be done and ready to be used for the next few years.

I have no idea what we're doing for Christmas day, I had toyed with the idea of hiring a mansion out in the hinterland here, splitting it between all of DHs family and doing a special family Christmas, but I think I might have to leave that until next year thanks to $s issues. I always do a spread, sparkling grape juice with strawberries and chocolate dip, brandy snaps, cold meats and salads, we live off it for weeks.

I want to go make a pinterest board.

I'm so jealous of your dolls BlissedOut. I almost snagged the most gorgeous doll last week but I didn't cart it in time

Do you girls garage sale? I'm a huge fan!!! I circle the paper in my area and just hunt around! People really want money so I always offer then less (sounds cruel but I need money too ya know!) Some people have some BEAUTIFUL things! And what about trash/treasure markets! My MIL sells lots of things there so i'm bound to have lots of second hand things for my new born (which I don't mind!)

I brought a wooden DIY advent calender I'm making for DP (going to put chocolate or a cute photo or something in each slot).. Like a photo of where we first met Silly things like that (first xmas together, and i'll be 6 months preg!)

For paper- get news paper, cut potatoes or even sponge into xmas tree's, stars, whatever shapes and put them into paint and print onto the paper (i hope you understand i'm really bad at explaining). I hate wasting paper And people pay so much money for a little roll

You have your basic cookies, cakes, jam, if you have a lemon tree you could preserve some lemon!!! I do this for my mum as she loves cooking Buy some olives and just add some spices, chillies etc and you have fancy olives LOL.

    I could go all day......

Ooh I think I'm gonna love this thread!

We are hosting christmas at our house for the first time this year, and not just once but 3 times (friends, inlaws, my family) I really wanna impress everyone! I am thinking of making some different flavours vodkas as gifts for the adults, probably skittle flavored and candy cane flavours. Might pack that up with some sort of yummy slice!
