    Default Csection under general anesthetic

I'm due to have a csection in a little over 4 weeks, and am scheduled to have it under a general due to risks/safety issues surrounding my heart and blood pressure. I would really like to hear experiences from anyone who has been through this before (whether emergency or elective) as I don't really know what I'm in for. Would love to hear details on how the procedure went (do they use gas or injection these days for general?), how long it took you to wake up and before you got to see bubs, how long can babies go before their first feed, can they bein recovery with you etc etc. i have along list of questions ready for my next ob visit now that I've wrapped my head around the fact I'll need to deliver under general and won't get to be there for the birth of my child ...but would love first-hand, honest experiences. Thanks

    Hi,

My experince is a little different, due to it being a emergency c/section in the middle of the night... but here is what happend.

I had a c/section under a general, but as a emergency procedures after a failed induction (had a patchy epi - so felt them cutting me open, then they put me 'under')

They put a mask on my face and I just remember falling asleep. I then woke up in recovery, and was told my husband had been sent home as it was now 3hrs later, and our bub was in the SCN.

Due to the general and the pain drugs I didn't get to see DD until she was 4hrs old, a midwife came in and tried to get me to BF, but I was still really out of it. (It had been a very LONG last few days, along with the general and drugs)

Then around 8hrs after the general I got to hold and experince her for the first time, during those 8hrs she had to have 2 fomular drinks (due to me having GD and DD having low blood sugar)

I was up and out of bed (barely walking tho!) after only 11hrs.

I am now 28wks with #2 (DD is 20mths) and have to have another c/section due to medical issues... IF I go into labour before my c/section date, it will be under a general again (due to medication that has to be stopped 48hrs before the spinal) .... if baby waits to the c/section date I can have a spinal.

I hope for you, that since your procedure will be daylight that you can have your partner and baby with you in recovery. xoxo

Oh, and we were told the day AFTER that the midwife WOULD of been happy to take photos of the baby for us during the 'birth'.... but since we didn't know the first photo we have is of her 3mins after 'birth' meeting my DH for the first time in the waiting room.
