How ridiculous do all those statements sound, when voiced by people who truly face problems?

But isnt that the whole reason why they are called 'first world problems'? I know there was a thread around here where everyone wrote their 'first world problem' and we all had a laugh as we all know that they arent major issues. Just things we deal with on a day to day basis.

Yes its awful that so many people today live in poverty, dont have clean water, live in war torn countries and have so little. It breaks my heart to see those things and I try and do what I can even if its just donating some money.

I am incredibly grateful for all I have and DP and I work our butts off for what we have. But why cant I have a first world problem too?

    I'm of mixed mined.

Personally I think it was a bit distasteful of the advertisers....

Everyone knows that FWP are a joke, a tongue in cheek. No one actually takes them seriously, we know we're blessed.

I actually think that using FWP (which are jokes) in a 'serious' ad, trivialises the issue which is being made.

I think it would be far better to have an add where the people were actually explaining THEIR problems... ie: Young child carrying water says - I have to walk for 2 hours every day to bring water for my mother to cook our daily meal" and then a caption down the bottom reading "Think about that next time you're iced water makes your chewing gum taste funny"...

Makes the same point, but without trivialising the issue at hand.
