Default Child wakes screaming PLEASE HELP

My sons always wakes upset, never just happy to have a chat to himself in the cot?? He sleeps all night 7pm-6-6:30am however when he wakes it always a startled scream??? Then still seems tired, after his naps in the day he wakes the same and still seems tired?
He has been doing this for 6 months now. We just realised he had glue ear so he had grommets put in and adneiods removed just over two weeks ago but have not seem an improvement, have been to GP to check the grommets and they all look good, so I am baffled as to why he does this??
Has any one out there had a simlar problem and did you find a solution?

    How old is he?
He might still be adjusting, 2 weeks is not long to break a habit.
Weird idea but if he's creaming for you maybe put a big picture of yourself where he can see it (the ceiling or wall) so in his half sleep he'll see a reassuring face...
ultimately a sleep clinic if he's waking tiered after sleeping all night he might not go into deep sleep hence not really resting.

He's 13months, The thing is I can't console him a lot of the time, sometimes it takes a good 30mins for him to calm down???

Oh so sad DD had an unconsolable day last week it broke my heart... I say a sleep clinic he might have an issue with rem and sleep pattern, especially if he's tiered looking after sleeping. Does he toss and turn or wakes easily to sounds?
My mum is a very light sleeper I mean she can hear a fly on the wall and wake up... She's often tiered even after sleeping all night that's why I'm suggesting a sleep clinic.
