    Default Low morphology?

Hi everyone. My partner recently had two separate semen analyses, the second one at the advice of Repromed. The first showed his morphology to be 25% and the second (the one done by Repromed) was only 4%. They said this is more likely to be accurate as their scientists deal exclusively in sperm, so to speak, and are more expert in determining what is a normal shape. According to the world health organisation 4% is normal anyway (and we also went to Flinders Reproductive Medicine who agreed) but the doctor at Repromed said this is low and there is little chance of natural conception. She recommended ICSI.

I am confused at being given different parameters by different "experts" and am suspicious that Repromed are giving us the worst case scenario so that we buy their (most expensive) product. Not sure if I am just being cynical and this really is cause for concern. My partner would rather try less invasive treatments initially and I tend to agree. Can anyone give me any clarification around this and whether 4% morphology really is such a big concern?

I was just about to post a thread with a similar query.

OH's analysis came back with good count, volume and motility, but poorer morphology. His was only 3% (waiting on results from 2nd test)

My GP apparently spoke with a specialist about it, and didn't seem too concerned.

Of course, I googled and freaked out, because it can be a problem - although more likely to be a problem when combined with other factors.

From what I have read, natural conception is possible, but it might take longer.

I wish I had more information!

    Anyone out there know??

my gyno in Victoria (also worked for Monash IVF) said 3% is fine and common for blokes to have low numbers of normal morphology.

I spoke to repromed and they suggested ICSI too straight up but never entertained the idea of IUI or IVF so does make me wonder if they were 'selling' the dearest product after speaking to another clinic who said once the antibodies (our reason can't concieve naturally) were washed we will be left with enough to do IVF or IUI first try before looking at ICSI....

Anyhow back to your OP, do you have the other results of the SA and do you mind sharing them? if so, may be able to give you an opinion on supplements and vitamins that can help boost the morphology and help improve it. If all your other numbers are ok there is no reason you couldn't TTC naturally IMO.

    Default pregnant!

Thanks for your responses. My partner's sperm analyses was fairly normal in all other factors and I am happy to announce that 4% wasn't a problem for us after all as I found out last week that we are pregnant and conceived naturally.

I also initially tested as having very low AMH but upon testing again it was almost normal. I think the lesson here is to always get a second opinion and don't rely on one test result. We feel very blessed and I'm crossing everything, hoping that I carry to full term. I wish you both much success also.

Thanks Falkor. I came off of contraception about a year ago but it's only really the past few months we've been actively trying. Good luck
