Default Help - UTI treatment while breasfeeding

    Hi Ladies,

has anyone had a UTI while breastfeeding? What over the counter medication is safe to take?

It is only very mild at the moment.

I can't get to a Dr today but I have some Ureze tablets in the cupboard. I don't know if I should take them or not.... I have had a UTI turn into a kidney infection before so I need to treat the UTI asap.

    TIA

Sorry I don't have an answer but could you get to a pharmacy? They could tell you, or give one a call if you can't get there. I hope it clears up soon

It depends how bad it is really. There are lots that would argue that breastfeeding out weighs any anti bs that you are on etc. But sometimes you need bad ones with high doses. I would just get to the Dr asap, and figure out what you need first and then work out if it is ok for bfing. Maybe ring health direct??

I had a uterine infection which they initially thought was a UTI, I was given antibiotics that are ok with breastfeeding (same one can treat both infections). But you need to take a good probiotic and be aware if thrush symptoms in your baby as it does pass through to them and increase chances of oral thrush.

i haven't had a UTI but I hear drinking HEAPS of unsweetened cranberry juice and water is important and I'd take some iimmune boosting stuff like vit c too.
