Ok i think ill start from the beginning so you know all the info..
when my daughter was born i suspected she had breathing problems as she always sounded congested.
at 9 weeks old she stopped breathing in her sleep and her lips were going purple and she was ghostly white. i had to revive her. she had a heart beat but wasnt breathing.
i took her to emergency they admitted her and did various tests including ECG and tested her oxygen in her blood..
when we were discharged the next day they gave us a monitor and said if it happens again the monitor will go off if she stops breathing for 20 seconds.
that night she was fine (as in the hospital she was fine too) the next night it went off 4 times in an hour.. calling Health direct they said to go to hospital so we went to the childrens hospital which was a bit further away but figured they know more about children then a local hospital would.
They kept her in for a night and she was fine the next day they did an ECG and blood test and monitored her vital signs she had about 7 cords off her at all times was heartbreaking. she was also having trouble breastfeeding so we had to switch to formula.
the next night all the monitors went off and an alarm was sounded... 3 nurses and a doctor came in i woke up from the noise next few hours were a blur i barely saw her they needed me out the way they got her breathing agian and needed to do an EEG incase she was having seizures or if something else was wrong..
all came back fine..
after the next day they sent us home with the monitor.. a week and a half later it goes off again. i go back to the hospital and demand to see an ENT as she had been having a congested nose for ages and they kept telling me it was something to do with her immature brain which is why she was stopping breathing.
at our local GP i also got refused a referal to see an ENT 2 weeks later it happened again the alarm went off and this time she wouldnt wake up she was going blue i had to revive her again.. this was getting beyond the joke. i was not a first time mum and i knew something was not right.
the next day i went to a different doctor and finally got my referal and had to wait 8 weeks for the next appointment.
many times over that 2 months her monitor went off sometimes not for a week other times upwards of 3 times a night.
at her appointment the ENT put a camera in her nose. She had swollen adenoids and needed an operation to remove them as it could help her breath. she was 5 months old at the time of the ENT appointment..
she also had a Floppy voicebox which could not help the situation and her Bronchial tubes were red as a sign of severe inflammation. and were partly swollen. showing that she was having trouble breathing. also she had a "growth" on her voicebox too.. (and no one would listen to me to give me a referal to an ENT this could have been sorted out sooner)
July 2nd this year she had her operations she was almost 7 months old.. 3 operations and it took a little over an hour. she wasnt feeding after the operations so she had a drip. after taking all the medications etc they gave us she got a cold. after she got over it about 2 weeks later she got another one.. Aug 23 i got told i had pneumonia and was freaking out as both my girls were coughing pretty bad.. (my eldest gets asthma when she is sick and she ended up on antibiotics for an ear infection and throat infection and urine infection for refusing to drink anything from her sore throat) i was already on antibiotics and had 2 courses of 10 days. even though i was fine about a week later i started coughing and finding it hard to breathe again.
August 25th My youngest gets another cold but this one is different.. She had been coughing for about a week by now and was irritable for so long and i hardly slept over this time. (she still has her monitor at nights and it kept going off) after a doctors trip she has a sinus infection and got given Amoxil. didnt work. 2 days after the course finished a fever that never went below 38.5 back to the doctor she has tonsilitis and a sinus infection this is day 8 of a ten day course of her third lot of antibiotics and she is still sick.
if it was Viral her body would have fought it by now. Bacterial the antibiotics would have killed it. but she is still sick.
Last week she had a fever that lasted 9 days while she was taking antibiotics and Panadol and Nurofen.. went to the doctor again and he said its her body fighting it just keep her comfortable then he called me a hypacondriac (sp?) boy was i angry!
now she seems fine playing crawling around babbling etc.. however when its time for sleep she can barely breathe.. plus she has a cough and another fever starting. Her nose has had a thick green discharge that is like an elastic band its like i can feel myself pulling it out of her sinuses.. its really weird.. never seen anything like it. and her tonsils are still red and quite swollen.. also she has a raspy voice and she cant do her high pitched squeals without it sounding like a whisper.
Can anyone help.. this has been going on for over a month and Doctors keep telling me she is fine. even at her post op hospital appointment they said she was fine.
her weight is in the 50th percentile.
her height is in the 50th percentile
her head circumferance is in the 25th percentile.
what should i do now?? what can i do.. im feeling like im failing she seems like she is worse at night then during the day but she has a 6 hour day time sleep (12- 6) and sleeps from 9pm til 8am at night
help please what should my next step be.. she started a fever again today too...
