Question Do you believe 'Positive speech & thoughts' really can make a difference?

As per title, do you believe that positive affirmations and thought processes can change your life/circumstances? Or do you think it's a load of hippy hogwash?

If you're talking about cognitive therapy and positive self talk then yes, affirmations like doreen virtue well whatever floats your boat but personally I dont buy it.

Big yes to the thread title. I'm a big believer in "you get out what you put in" and "fake it til you make it". I see that as being more about how you relate and interact with others affecting how they behave around you.

Positive affirmations, I think, work when they're used to open yourself up to ideas and possibilities. So they're more about training your mind than sending out a wish list to the universe. Nothing will magically happen just because you've sent out some affirmations.

Having said that, I spent hours picturing my follicles reponding to the drugs and growing for my second stim cycle in IVF. I got 13 more eggs than from the first one. Was it because I wished and pictured it hard enough, or because of the higher doses I was on?

Yes I do! Our brains can be "reprogrammed" for sure. When you do and say something over and over, you do eventually (in most cases) change your thought plan...

    Hope all is ok Op?

Oh yes, thanks lol... Everything is fine! Just an interesting topic, I thought the hub needed a new topic on something different lol.

I used to be such a negative thinker, such a pessimistic person. Then, my son's traumatic birth, PND and ptsd happened and slowly over the last 5 years I've grown to be a non stressing, optimistic, happy and rarely worried person! Even I am amazed at how my thought processes and feelings have changed. I only went to therapy for about a year, but cumulatively, what the psych taught me and my growing religious beliefs I believe have led me down this path.

I was the first person to say to my husband "Oh yeah right, as if positive talk will make any difference!" and what I've found is this :

You might not be able to change your circumstances, but you sure can change how you FEEL about it!

Yup, totally agree. I was working at a job I hated and was bringing all of that bad energy home with me - even though I have a fantastic life I was really unhappy. I decided to focus on the great things in my life and remind myself of them whenever I felt crappy - 'fake it 'til you make it' worked for me! Well, that and quitting my job!

My mum has ALWAYS said things to me such as 'will it to you', 'put out good vibes' and 'ask the universe for what you want'. I kind of rolled my eyes a bit but then Ive found if you feel better about a situation, its helpful...if that makes sense.

So yeah, I think it can make a difference. I dont believe it changes 'life' (as in gives you magical, willed experiences) but I do believe it changes how you deal with life.

Speech and thoughts are nothing without the feeling and belief in why you say otherwise it doesn't work. I have a very positive husband who sets goals and believes he will get there. Works for him all the time because he doesn't doubt it. I have a natural tendency to worry and get down sometimes so I ride the wave if his success ha ha ha .
We have a book we write in and im serious most I then things we wrote ( not all) have come true so far. Neither of us deep down have a massive desire I be mega rich it's just not us so im guessing that will never happen ha ha but we have have managed to acquire our own home , have my husband work from home to spend more time with little kids and husbands career makes him happy.... This and many other things we both believed in. We don't have lots of money but we wanted lifestyle and we have achieved it in the 5 years we set out.

So if you don't feel it and don't need it or believe it your not going to get it . Just belief.
