    Default Surname change for children

    Hi,

    Does anyone know how I can change my kids last name to mine as I haven't seen the ex in over a year and recently found out that he still sees his teenage daughter from a previous relationship and couldn't be bothered making a effort to see the 2 children we had together, so I really don't want the kids to have his last name anymore.

    Hmm... not sure what to do then- I only know a miniscule amount on this from reading other threads on BH- but surely someone who knows a bit more will be able to help.

    From what I've read on other threads on this topic, you will need his permission. If he can't be found or simply will not agree then I think you can take the matter to family court to plead your case.

    If he's been totally absent from their lives for so long and has made no effort to have himself contactable by you then I'd imagine you'd have a decent chance.

    you will need his permission to change the birth certificate or a court order stating BDM must change the name.
