    Hi ladies,

It's been a whole year since I've done a cycle and almost as long since I've posted on the forum. I'm not sure if any of you were on here then! Anyway, DH and I are now finally starting an ICSI cycle with Dr Lok at Westmead (we were with Demeter last time).

Feeling nice and positive this time. Dr Lok has prescribed hubby some meds to improve his testosterone which in turn has helped his motility. So that's great for us. He's also allowed us to freeze some sperm ahead of time just in case we don't have sperm on the day (which has happened before).

Anyway, today is CD3 for me and I'm starting Gonal at 137.5U. Hoping to get a good number of eggs this time. Very excited and nervous...

Ladydee - Some clinics like to use that long cycle in order to "turn off" your ovulation cycle before starting meds; makes it easier to control your cycle later apparently. Both specialists I've seen use the faster cycle although Westmead apparently does do the longer one for some women. They prefer the shorter one though as it allows them to fit more patients in (public hospital =lots of demand!).

I've never used the syranel (the one you sniff) but the drug I have used with my Gonal F is called Orgalutran and it stops ovulation until your eggs are ready. The injections of that are worse than the Gonal because it's a thicker needle so it hurts more but you kinda cope because you have to. Lol.

Karma Jane are you doing Ivf? I asked my clinic if I could have the drug that stops me ovulating so I can time bd better & have a better quality egg, also because my first cycle on Gonal f I ovulated early on day 10. They said no, they only supply that for Ivf so they can schedule EC.
But the day before my LH surge I had a scan & it showed a small Folicle. I don't understand why I can't have something to prevent my LH surge happening to early again.

Welcome and thanks KarmaJane Great that your starting out feeling positive and with hubby getting his boys moving and on track You're a superstar for surviving a whole year off and I hope to see you get your beautiful BFP sticky very very soon! Even though I apparently did O in the cycle after my m/c, though I won't believe that until the fat lady (AF) sings, I don't usually O without drugs so I wonder why I need to switch anything off when it seems to be the best thing my body is able to do? After mentioning the option of asking my FS about swapping to the shorter cycle, my FN did say that PCOS women do tend to have luck in that type if IVF cycle.... Maybe that's what she meant? Coz we don't really have to shut anything off?? Who knows. Do you happen to know what the difference is between the two cycles? I think I might ask Dr Google...

Welcome and best wishes Aussiecarla. If not the IVF drugs then your clinic should be coming up with some sort of plan to prevent you O'ing so early....I'm guessing the follie would produce an immature egg that early maybe? I'm definitely no expert though. Do you know what size your follicle was on that last scan? I know my clinic was always aiming for an ideal size of 20mm but told me it was possible to O when they are over 16mm. The regular Oestrogen blood tests I got also showed how good a quality follie/egg it was when compared to its size on the u/s. Can they reduce your FSH dosage so your follie/s have more time to grow? Good luck Hun

Heyside - is this something that could happen to you if you don't have a cycle on the pill to get your LH down first? Or am I totally missing the mark here?
    Have you started injecting again?

    Thanks for the welcome ladies.

Aussiecarla - Yes, I'm doing IVF. ICSI actually. We have male factor infertility so timed intercourse or IUI aren't an option for us. I know that the Orgalutran is a standard drug in an IVF cycle (it has been for me, anyway, since I've only done short cycles) but maybe they aren't able to provide it for you because it's not subsidised for your kind of treatment? If your LH surge is that much of an issue I'm surprised they haven't looked at IVF for you...hopefully your hormones sort themselves out for you soon.

Ladydee - Hmmm, not sure why they'd need to do a long cycle for you then. Because I'd had it explained to me that it was so they kinda start with a blank slate and can manipulate it better. But both places I've been to never even suggested a long cycle for me, always straight to a short cycle. As far as I know the long one is kind of "old school", it was what they did before they worked out how to do it quicker. Maybe your FS just prefers the old way?

Mrs Hopeful - Sounds very likely that your AMH test had errors, if your clinic agrees there might be an error is it worth asking for it re-done to stop you from worrying? We pay enough for these tests least they can do is make sure results are accurate. Not sure if your af has turned up as yet but I had my last pill on Sunday and af showed up Wednesday afternoon and that's usually the case. Hopefully she has arrived and you have started jabbing again.

aussiecarla - Welcome to the thread, hope you have a short stay

KarmaJane - Welcome back to the thread, good luck with this cycle, hope your new clinic are good and make you feel relaxed about the whole process, you sound very positive so far which is good.

Ladydee - I can see how you linked me with comment of the high Lh surge linked to early ovulation but that's the case for me. Apparently FSH has to be higher than Lh initially for a follicle to develop but as my Lh is so high it needs to be lowered in my case so anything can even develop in the first place, so my follicles are very small and just turn into cysts (I think that's the gist of it). I am like you and don't ovulate at all on my own so no worry of early ovulation lol!

AFM - Ok so I suppose my cycle has kind of got started, I went for my blood test yesterday (bruises on both my arms one huge, looked like I have been attacked lol!). Results seem ok and I have been given the go ahead to start injections tomorrow on a lower dose of 75 which I am pleased about as think the dose of 100 has messed both of my last two cycles up. I am also starting on a tablet of eastroldile each night to try and increase my lining as apparently it has only been at a minimum level the last few cycles. Big confusion with that today though too as my prescription should have been sent to me in the post and it hadn't so had to ring around chemists today trying to locate some as I needed to start it tonight - always seems to be something that goes wrong!

Thanks for the warm welcome ladies.

Folicle was small was all I was told but thy said after the trigger & at ovulation it could have reached 16. Didnt sound very promising did it! I am just liaising with the nurses. Might go back to the FS for a chat after this cycle. Fingers crossed for a later LH surge. I am doing 75units of Gonal f.

I am going in for my first scan & bloods on cd 8. What day do you go in or your first scans?

Carla - I'll likely be going for ultrasound on CD11. But bloods at CD7, 9 and 11. Bit strange for me as my old FS did mostly ultrasound.
