Just another thought. We supplie beer, wine and sparkling wine for our engagement party (55 guests) and spent $560 with only half a carton of mid strength left over! So alcohol is a huge expense. Depending on guest numbers maybe just supply some or look into a "u brew it" type beer

It depends on what's important to you. Would you prefer to be married sooner, or to spend the extra?

Personally, my partner and I have no interest in a big wedding, so we'd probably spend the $1000 if we'd already planned a date.
That said, neither of us care too much about WHEN we get married either. We've been engaged for over a year and haven't even thought about it. So...perhaps not the most useful advice.

Default Would you have a wedding with $1000 or....

Personally I would wait but I LOVE the sound of having a casual wedding in the backyard.

I would wait because I think it's really important to have a good photographer. The photos from our wedding are absolutely amazing. I would hate to think we missed out on that. We spent $14k but had it at a venue etc and in today's standards of weddings thats not really that much.

$1000 doesn't go far these days. Even with making everything yourself materials still cost money and before you know it, it's all gone. Would not be supplying alcohol? Cost of alcohol is a killer

Personally I would go ahead and I would be happy with a low key wedding, I see it as a celebration of love and you can do that in your back yard with ur family and friends :-)

I would do low budget wedding, and have the other money for the rest of your lives!

The fairy lights etc sounds divine! and your plan so far sounds very lovely.

If you have your heart set on a big expensive wedding and end up doing the cheaper option, do you think in your heart you will always wish you had done the massive big event? If so I think you should hold off, as most of us go into marriage with the plan it's only going to happen once so why scrimp on one of the most important days in your life?

I was going to say the exact same thing

While having the 1k wedding sounds lovely... If you think you may regret it down the track, id hold off.

My DH was the one that convinced me to do the big wedding after i just wanted something simple and cheap and IMO Im so glad he did.

Our wedding cost about $20-25000 and it was money well spent. Sure it could have gone towards something else but it was an amazing day and i only plan to do it once
