24 years! Wow, that's a fantastic run. We've had nothing but problems, he has other issues on top if the hydro that complicates things further. I'd hate to see nothing checked now and then find out later it is more serious when it's better to be treated sooner. We still measure his head at home and keep a record, helps us and his drs

Yeah i am greatful, my specialist worked in sydney childrens hospital back then and prefered spinal shunts for my type of hydro (my brain makes to much fluid) as he found their success rate better & they didn't need to be changed to acomidate growth of the child.

I used to have dye injected into my brain every 1-2 years to 'check' it was working until i was 12 (turns.out that wasnt necisary but the doctors liked to do it as they didn't understand hydro much).

Havent seen a specialist since i was 12 either thank goodness.

Default Head circumference off the chart at 6 months

Thanks everyone for your responses and honesty.

I was looking for some reassurance and positivity but now I'm even more scared than I was before.

I think I might go to bed so I can be asleep and not think about it

I didn't mean to scare you hydro occurs roughly 1 in 500 cases and can be treated. Hugs xo

Default Head circumference off the chart at 6 months

My son's head circumference was in the 97th percentile when born and within months he was off the charts. His peadeatrician wasn't concerned and said as long as it doesn't jump up too much too quickly. My daughter's head circumference was average at first but slowly grew until she was in the 90th percentile at 12 months and again no concerns.

    Hello,
my DD who is just 9mths old is having her second brain ultrasound tomorrow at Westmead kids hospital. Her head circumference went from 45th to 96th percentile and is now at 99th + percentile. The first ultrasound in January 2013 showed low grade hydrocephalus we have been measuring every three weeks. She has just been sick for over a month with periodical vomiting, weight loss and a UTI.
we r also having a kidney ultrasound as well tomorrow.
i am a RN which makes it worse as I have a great imagination and know what might be happening.
    can anyone give me reassurance?
    Stressed mummy

Hi, did y son's shunt get blocked and if so, what were his signs? My son gets head aches and usually then a high fever, i am concerned that it could be a sign of a blocked shunt!
