and I also think that coles/woolies branded are delibrately UNDER PRICED to eventually drive out competition and you will see they increase their prices over time as ppl see their product as comprable/its the only one available. You can already see it with their 'select branding'.

I buy Home Brand freezer bags and swabs. I'm fussy, and I trust brand names to be better quality.

Default Do you buy popular brand names or cheaper generic brands at the supermarket?

I don't really like home brand food, I can taste the difference! For pantry staples like flour, sugar, spices etc I will buy home brand cause there's not much difference. I prefer to buy the brand stuff because I know I'll enjoy it more.

I'd say one third of my shopping cart is generic brands, although I do check that the products are 100% Aussie as I have been caught out with buying a frozen product made from a foreign country. I have found that coles smart buy (white packaging) are usually from other countries but the coles brand (coloured packaging and a tad more expensive) are 100% Aussie.

My frame of mind is, you can only try it.. If it sucks, don't buy it again.

One major item that I've recently converted to is home brand or comfy bots nappies. After using huggies for over a year, I have to say these are both great!

When I go in my Coles now it's almost impossible to find some products that aren't Coles own brand.

This annoys me, I have one brand of sauce I loveand now my local has almost three rows of their own and my sauce not stocked so I buy it every 3 months when I go to neighbouring shopping centre just for the sauce.

I have found so many products are no longer stocked due to woolies/coles brand being 3-9 bucks cheaper

I buy more brand names then generic.
I try to buy more environmentally friendly, less chemical laden and vego friendly products which quite often are only brand names.
Things like tinned tomatoes, paper towels, sometimes toilet paper and frozen corn i will buy generic.

wow did not know that, I did stop in at an IGA on the weekend and was amazed at the variety of products and things I had not seen in a very long time. I go past the turn off to the IGA a week for sport so may have to stop in and ask.
