Default Waiting lists for anon sperm donor??

My past clinic actually only used one, but I would guess that they are somewhat larger.

Fingers crossed the wait doesn't last too much longer. Will be interesting to hear what feedback you get next week mgc!

AND in NSW we have the 5 family limit (in Victoria it's 10), so there are probably less US donors that meet all those criteria.
Just wondering how many donors you had in total to pick from?

Default Waiting lists for anon sperm donor??

From memory, I think there were around 20-25 in total. But we immediately screened it down to about 10 or less, just on height & ethnicity. Sorry if that sounds awful, but we're Caucasian so that's what we wanted in a donor too. And my DH & all his family are really tall, so shorties didn't fit the bill either. They didn't have any donors as tall as DH, but there were a few that were fine. One was a clear choice, but we did each have a 2nd choice too.

    Hope that helped.

I emailed Kirsty the other day, to ask if there's a time limit to breaks between cycles before we might lose our access to our donor. And I got an out of office reply, if that info helps anyone.

Thanks Veritas. It wasn't an urgent question so I'll just wait for Kirsty to reply when she's back.

Default Waiting lists for anon sperm donor??

Well we have a treatment plan in place, now for a nurses appt to book and then to keep on waiting!

Dr actually mentioned that having a treatment plan in place may actually speed up the wait so not sure what that means!

I phoned and spoke to Kirsty yesterday, as we've now been on the donor sperm wait list for 3 months. She firstly said that she thought it would still take another 3-4 weeks to get to the list. When I said that if we do a cycle now, it would make EPU on 18th Feb, she went back to her computer, but then made a "sad" sigh and said she really didn't think it would be available by then, even though that is the 3-4 week mark. She also was very hesitant for us to go ahead with the cycle hoping that donor sperm would become available, saying that not everyone find their "match" on the first list that they're shown, and have to wait until the next list is ready. She also queried if we'd seen the counsellor, as they won't even consider giving you sperm until you've done this.

AFM.... We're going with the plan to see if Dr G can find some sperm in DH's micro-dissection, so are not waiting for the donor sperm, since it still won't be available for another month (and I just can't wait any longer). There is a possibility that Dr G doesn't find any useable sperm, so the cycle would then be cancelled (ie. no EPU), but DH and I feel that we will be no worse off in that situation as we were in our first two cycles that didn't result in a pregnancy (apart from financially, but it's only money!!). If this cycle doesn't work, then we will definitely be at the top of the list by then. Glad to to doing something, and should start sniffing Syranel today or tomorrow.

Hey, sorry to hear that MGC. On the financial front, if your EPU is cancelled I don't think the cycle fee is very much. It's certainly not the $8k for full cycle. Hope Dr G finds some spermies though!

I spoke to Gayle eysterday, and just going to ring Kirsty now & confirm the decision to release our donor back onto the list. Apparently we can hover around the top of the list for whenever we'd like to go again though, so we don't have to wait again. That is reassuring to know.

Default Waiting lists for anon sperm donor??

MGC it's such a horrible wait isn't it.... We are 3.5 mths and counting now. Hoping so badly that we find our donor before day 1 of the next cycle comes around so we don't have to wait another.

May or may not have a nurses appt tomorrow, depending on Kirstys advice. Dr asked us to do it prior to donor selection and Gayle told us we shouldn't so waiting on confirmation either way.

Peonies, that must be a hard decision to make, but good to know you are still not far from being able to choose at any stage.

Everything crossed for good news for all of us :-)
