Default Waiting lists for anon sperm donor??

Hey there, with ivf Australia the wait is longer if you are doing iui than ivf as they categorise the sperm according to its suitability and some are only ok for icsi.

We are now 2 mths into our wait for ivf and have been told its 3-4 by donor coordinator but 2-3 by the counsellor. Fingers crossed its more like 3 :-)

Default Waiting lists for anon sperm donor??

Hi peonies, how long ago was it you were on the waiting list? Trying to stay patient here :-)

And yep fertility first have no wait list for donor sperm. We underwent three failed iui through them before transferring to our local ivf Australia clinic.

Default Waiting lists for anon sperm donor??

I'm a lesbian who used imported donor sperm through Qfg. Bought my vial in January this year and at that time was told that we could only use it for ivf as it has the higher chance of pregnancy.

If you've been on the waiting list for a long time, there are websites with Aussies who are willing to donate sperm and you could just take them to your clinic who will do all the testing. This may take 6 months but at least then you will know what's going on as opposed to waiting. And because your going through the clinic it is all legal and the donor has no rights til bub is 18.

Hi Veritas - it was early this year. We would have gone on the list in January, I think & did the 1st cycle in March/April.

At the moment we're actually using a donor at home using AI, found through a website for such things. He's been tested for everything 3 or 4 times this year and have seen all the tests, drew up a contract etc. Will see how that goes for a few months.

Yes, Peonies is spot on. IVFA has a centralised list, run through their Greenwich rooms. The donor co-ordinator, Kirsty, is very helpful and when I phoned her she was very happy to answer all my questions. She said that the IVFA donor sperm list was 3 months for most of 2012, however recently it blew out to 4-6 months. I was a bit freaked to have to wait 6 months, but was so glad that I called to clarify. Kirsty basically said that it is 4 months for heterosexual couples, while single women and same-sex couples might be up to 6 months, as some donors only will donate to certain people. We put our name on the list at the end of October and were hoping to cycle at the beginning of February, so Kirsty advised to phone at the end of January to see how our name had progressed, so there is some hope that we will get it at the 3 and a half month. Fingers crossed, as I really don't want to push it out another month.

We have also been to Fertility First (Hurstville), as we wanted to get as much info on donor sperm before making a decision. This business of taking pot-luck with the first place where your local GP recommends you to is crazy. Wish I knew that 12 months ago!! Fertility First has no waiting list, but we are tipping towards IVFA due to the MIF specialist DH needs, as well as what other reviewers have advised.

Default Waiting lists for anon sperm donor??

MGC - we joined the list at beginning October! I've found Kirsty amazing to deal with as with everyone at IVFA. The experience with them even without having cycled yet is worlds apart from our three cycles at fertility first. Even with the wait we are very happy with our decision.

Veritas... That's great - I'll be keeping a close eye on you, to see when you get to the top of the donor list, as we'll be not far behind you. As much as DH and I would love our own genetic baby, we are so looking forward and long to just have a baby that we can call our own, so am very excited that it's not too far off. I have my fingers crossed now for you too :-)

Just to answer/update my own OP: The clinic I'm with in Brisbane has no waiting time for donor sperm, because they do import it from the US (I initially read that this wasn't allowed any more, but obviously that info was incorrect).

GL to you Veritas and MGC.

But when you get to the top of the list, it's all so quick! Kirsty sent me an email with the link to the site and a password - we looked at them that night, it was so easy to make a choice. I let her know our choice, and that was that. Access to website immediately cut off. So make sure you have a really good look ... oh and save the PDF profile of the one you choose. I had to email Kirsty later and ask for it so we would have it for future reference.

    Good luck girls!
