    Default Salary and bonus payment...

Mods, please move if this should be in another section. I can't find it.

DP got his payslip today. He has just seen that his salary and bonus have been processed as one payment and we have been taxed out the wazoo for it. So in total we are getting not even a weekly grocery shop extra out of what should have been quite a large amount.

Does anyone know if they can do this or should it be paid separately? Last year it was processed and paid separately so I'm really confused why they have done it this year like this.

Just want to clarify is all.

It should be a separate payment, they will need to fix it up. get him to ring his payroll department. I used to be a payroll officer and bonuses were always separate. Otherwise they are getting taxed on the bonus as if it were received for one pay period ie say you get paid fortnightly, it is being included and taxed at a fortnightly rate, when it may be a yearly bonus IYKWIM?

We have always gotten them as one payment, didn't know we could ask them to do it separately.

That's what I thought. It's a yearly bonus so it is quite a big amount but they have paid it in his fortnightly pay... are you a spy? :sly:

Do you know what happens at tax time if they don't change it? Will we get more back?

DP's have been and still are always paid along with his fortnightly salaries. He has asked them if they can pay on a off pay week but they don't do it. He works for a very big company if that makes any difference.
