I thought this was general restaurant/dining etiquette that everyone knew....but apparently not.

What other things did you think that everyone knew and was stunned to find out heaps of people didn't?
On that same note, when I was a waitress I HATED when people didn't put their cutlery together! I had a few experiences where the customer would rudely demand that I take their plates, but the cutlery was still sitting in the 'eating' position (resting downwards against plate) and there was still food on the plate. Gah.

I KNOW!!!!! And it's like plate is still half full and no matter if they're done eating or not finished I always get it wrong. Plus I work in a restaurant that pumps out 600-700 meals in a 3 hour dinner sitting, so under a lot of pressure to get tables cleared and turned over!!

Yeah it's a weird one. I only really recently worked out that a lot of people dont seem to know. I think its because they're called demerit which is associated with down, so you assume its coming off your license. But really its demerit points as in 'naughty points' so you gain them when you break the law.

Don't feel bad, I only found out late last year what a flash mob was. Had no idea before then, never even heard of it!

I know. I spent ages looking for a use by date on the cans in our pantry. Not one of them had a date and I wanted to throw them all out coz I didn't know when or if they were out of date. DF came in 30mis later and told me that they don't have a use by coz thy don't go out of date.
I still feel wary about it, but it must be true if there is no date on them?

Wow I dunno. I know a lot of tinned stuff is usually okay beyond it's use by date anyway if the tin is undamaged. Maybe google it? Lol

Honey is another that doesn't go off. Ancient Egyptians used honey back on the day for medicinal purposes. Apparently jars of it had been found that still proved honey doesn't actually go off.

As a rule anything with a best before date doesn't really go off as such but the quality of it can go down hill.

On the other hand things with a use by date should not generally be used after that date unless it had been frozen before hand.

Yeah, honey has antibacterial and antibiotic properties which means the bacterias that cause spoilage do not grow in it, hence its healing properties.

I always thought that everyone knew that when an animal shows the whites of its eyes and flattens its ears it means its prolly nervous and gonna bite you. You would be surprised at the amount of people who call me an animal freak or say "well sorry I dont talk animal like you do" when I warn them of impending bites.

That if you are worried a can of soft drink/beer is going to spray all over you when you open it, you can tap it's bottom and it prevents the spray! And to release the vacuum seal on jars, give them a good thump on the bottom of the jar, you generally hear a small pop then the lid comes off much easier.
