    Default Cost of moving house

Hey. We're looking to move house. Approx 35 kms down the road. Before o go jumping into things, has anyone got any idea on how much (approx.) it will cost for removalists? Are we talking hundreds or thousands? We have a 3 yr old and a 5 mth old and live in a jam packed 2 bedroom + office unit. Hubby is a self employed tradie so garage is packed full of his work stuff as well. So, we'd definitely fill a large truck.
Also, any tips for moving house stressfree with kiddies? I plan to pack something everynight and pack all day when my toddler is at family day care. I'll also have a box specifically for them with clothes, nappies, food, toys, sleeping bag, etc. It'll be the last box to go on the truck and the first to come off at our destination so they are kept happy and sorted.....and hubby stress free!
    Any other tips?

I think it would be a couple hundred for a truck though I'm not sure. Perhaps google some removalists and their prices?
As for packing, don't be afraid to ask for family/friends to help you, even if they just mind the kids one night closer to the move or something. Pack bits and pieces whenever you can and keep the boxes away from your toddler! Haha

    My xdh is a removalist.

Hiring a removalist can cost thousands, it would be much cheaper to hire a truck and do it yourselves.

I'd ring around and get quotes from removalist companies and truck rental companies.

I moved approx that distance from a unit to a house. So they had to go up and down the lift but we moved as much as we could of the smaller stuff downstairs beforehand. Our removalist cost just under $1000. We did have to pay a slight extra fee because we used s company based a bit further away but we'd used them before and they were excellent, worth the extra cost.
That was Pre kids though so no advice on that part of it.

Only reason why I wanted to hire removalists was because hubby has enough on his plate at the moment. He works flat out and I don't want to give him that added stress of loading a truck. I can imagine it now. Unhappy husband= unhappy wife, family, friends, kids, neighbors, etc

Call around and get quotes, the last time we moved i think it was $150 an hour and it was 3hrs that it took.

They had 3guys moving and packing the truck, drove to destination and i stood at front door directing them what room to put what in.

Hiring a truck and doing it yourself would be cheaper though you'll likely do more loads as you wouldnt be experienced at packing a truck, plus you'd need lots of helping hands.

Yeah I can sympathise, moving is very very stressful, we are looking to move into a larger place in a few months.

Get quotes from as many removalists as you can because their prices vary quite a lot.

We moved from a jam packed two bed unit to a house 70km away. At the time we had a 17month old and a 3 month old. We hired a truck. I packed up lots of boxes during naps/after they had gone to bed. Just remember to label the boxes as it's easier when packing and unpacking. But to be honest me and dh are so unorganized that we ended up doing an all nighter the night before the move and packed up most of the unit then lol

Dh and his brother packed up the whole unit in the time it took my friend to go to the shop and get coffee! So about half an hour! We told our neighbours the day before that we would have the truck parked outside our balcony as we were on ground floor for an hour or so at 9am (just so we didn't have cars wanting us to move the truck)

Then I stayed back to clean the unit whilst my neighbour looked after the boys. They were unpacked by 2pm! We were all at our new place with truck dropped off etc by 7pm. It cost about $300 (maybe less can't quite remember) to hire the truck for the day. It was definitely worth the effort as we were quoted $1800 for a removalist.

We did hire a removalist when we moved from our one bedder to a two bed unit. This was whilst I was pregnant with my first. I think the whole thing was more stressful than when we did it ourselves! We moved about 20km down the road and it cost around $650 from memory.
