Yes sadly the system kinda sucks like that and you have to be technically homeless with no accommodation to go to that same night you walk in. At least that's what they said to me, unfortunately that was exactly the position the boys and I were in, as a pp said they do try to get you into a refuge if they can, they found a place for us in a women's refuge after 2.5ish weeks good luck, I'm sorry your having to go through this, it's such a strain and a heartache not knowing where home is and how things are going to turn themselves around. I wish you all the luck in the world!!!
Thank you so much. I know how tough it is. I have been there twice before and don't want to go back for a third time. we will have better luck this time!

Wow! Thats a terrible response. I know you must be stressed but I know plenty of single mothers in Brisbane who go through renting and the doh. You have to think positive. Keep being down and you probably wont get anywhere.
Atleast they have given you a month.

    I agree.

Don't play the "woe is me I'm a single mum and everything is so hard card", you're not the only person who's been in that situation.
You pick yourself up and do everything in your power to change the circumstances. There are the salvos and other refuges around, bond loans and a heap of other services.

And FTR yes I have been there so I do sympathise. Except I was kicked out by my ex with 8 month old twins and family being 8 hours away and had nothing. Please don't tell people they have no sense of reality when all she was doing was offering advice.

    Yeouch, settle kids!

OP, I don't really think that offering to them to do the renos while you are the is going to work (as someone else mentioned, the legalities could be a bit sticky) but I'd definitely offer to allow people to come in to do quotes etc. Most quoting takes at least a couple of weeks, sometimes more. So it might buy you some time.

And if you're paying rent at the same time, it's no loss to them right? They're still getting the renos started AND they're having the mortgage paid for them while they wait.
Perhaps they just don't know your situation. If it was me and I was buying the house for my daughter and I knew that someone ELSE's daughter was in such a tough spot, I'd tell my own daughter to suck it up and stay home for a few more weeks .

I think you'll find i'm not playing the "woe is me I'm a single mum and everything is so hard card". I know plenty of other people face this circumstance. This will be the third time for me. I was homeless after leaving the ex too. For 6 months with 2 kids we had nowhere. I applied for 150 rentals in the first 3 months and was knocked back for them all. I had to give up work. I think you'll find that's why i'm terrified of it happening again. I'm doing everything in my power atm to get somewhere to live, i'm also trying to sort out a back up plan if that fails as well!

One think that can help (but you are prob already doing it) is to write a cover letter with your application. To say that you've always been a good tenant, you're happy to take care of the garden etc. Sometimes it can just give them a bit more to go on.

They've already come in and done up measurements for most things. Apparently most of the work is being done by her brother so i'm not sure they will need quotes and what not happening.
I'm guessing i will probably have to end up asking the RE for more time and will just see what happens.
