Default What have you learnt today?

I've learnt that even though I can't see the road I'm trying to turn across I should go anyway because the guy coming the opposite direction waved to tell me it was clear.

I also learnt that no matter how much of a hurry someone claims to be in, they still have time to U turn, follow you home & abuse you for not taking their word for it that it's safe to go across.

Finally I learnt that I can talk my way out of these situations using logic. *grin*

I learned not to rely on DH picking up the veggies for dinner and being home at a reasonable time. He called 10 minutes ago to say he was still at work - we normally eat at 5.30 and I have to actually COOK dinner when he gets home

I learnt that the 80% of DNA the scientists used to think was junk they now think isn't. Sounds about as decisive as me!

OP: Did you also learn that French kids tend to celebrate both their birthday and their "name-day", i.e. the "date saint" that they are named after? My French teacher in high school told us that name-days are just as big a deal as birthdays.

AFM: I learnt that this amazing picture from Voyager 1 has existed since 1990, but I don't ever remember seeing it before. It's the furthest distance that Earth has ever been photographed from, and it just makes you realise how damn insignificant we all are. Mind-blowing stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pale_Blue_Dot.png

Painting is a great deal of fun.

Painting after the toddler wakes up is not quite so much fun.

Cutting in is an acquired skill and I'm glad for the backup tape.

When you've never painted before, the first coat is all about learning about your equipment and just how liberal or stingy you need to be with the paint stock available.

I can't help myself but go into the room repeatedly to admire the handy work, picturing how it will all look when the new furniture and wall stickers are in place. :-)
