Has anyone decided not to do the GTT? And why??

Do all OBs do this as standard?
    Just wondering!!

    Default Glucose test....???

I did the test which came back positive so had to check blood sugar levels 4 times daily. Very annoying especially when I hardly ever had high reading & was not diet controlling at all. Did not affect my pregnancy one little bit but in saying that I think I had a false reading as was sick (vomitting) night before my test & think that may have affected reading.

This highlights for me why, it's done as a screening test rather than a symptom test. I don't believe in worrying about something when there are no symptoms.

I had it done with #1, was standard, i dnt question it. First one came back SLIGHTLEY high so had to do the second one. that came back normal.
I did the first one with #2. I asked if it was really nessasary and the doc said yes. Any way, came back SLIGHTLEY high again and i said thats what happened last time and the second one was fine so i dont want the second one. Well she pretty much said i HAD to have the second one. It came back fine...LIKE I KNEW IT WOULD!!!!

I wouldnt be getting another one if i had another bub.

If anything, if you were sick the night before it would have made your bsl lower. Why would u not want it done when there can direct risks to the baby if you did have it? Some babies can't maintain their own blood sugars if mum has had diabetes and they need to be monitered and have treatment. Mum might feel ok, but its about the baby .

I wasn't even given the option for second screening even though my readings were generally normal :s

I think it was a shock to my system when I had the drink because you have to fast overnight so everything I ate prior to fasting I threw up so first thing I had was a sugary drink. Not too sure why I had high reading then but then was generally fine after that :s
