Default Reoccurant mastitis - is there anything else I can do??

I didn't have any (major) problems feeding DS1 (I fed till he self weaned at 2 years 9 months) but with DS2 I had six bouts of severe mastitis in the first six months. Some took two courses of antibiotics to clear and another went systemic meaning I was in agony to move for almost a month due to hyperinflammation.
I finally became antibiotic resistant to keflex and had to switch to erythromycin to treat it (I'm allergic to penicillin so my options are limited).

I started on a new breastfeeding support vitamin and got three whole months without mastitis. I was thrilled. But now it's back. I've already been to the hospital for this bout and have been extremely ill this week from the version of erythromycin they gave me (different version of same thing). I finally have the usual ones I take but now they don't seem to be working too well. I feel healthier but feeding is still agony in the affected side. I'm concerned that I may be becoming resistant to this one too

I really don't want to wean my baby (he'll be 10 months next week) until at least 12 months (I'd planned to let him self wean). The thought of weaning so young makes me honestly want to cry as being able to breastfeed my babies is extremely important to me.

But I genuinely don't know what else I can do. I've spoken to Drs and lactation consultants and no one knows why it's happening

Can anyone suggest anything? I so want to keep feeding but I'm also worried about what I'm putting my body through at this point.

I'm so sorry. I also have had severe mastitis and had to have antibiotics on hand as soon as I felt it coming on.
I found any crack or soreness would always develop into mastitis. It was like the "germ" got in through any open cracks in my nipple.
I worked really hard on my 3rd baby's attachment and found I didn't get it as often due to minimising any potential for sore cracked nipples.
I am in absolute awe of your persistence. I didn't have it as severely as you and not sure I could have gone on if I did.
I really have no other ideas or suggestions, wishing you a speedy recovery and some answers!

I have heard lecithin is good to take and also vitamin c as it boosts the immune system. A lot people don't believe in vitamin c but if you do some research you'll find a lot of info.
I have used megadoses of vitamin c for a lot of things and found it a miracle cure.

I just searched for some info that I had typed out here before and then I discovered it was one of your old threads. :/ Sorry to hear you are still having issues.

Did you try the lecithin and vit C?

Are you making sure you're taking care of your boobs? ie no bumps to them, no restrictive clothing?

Honestly if you just went 3 months without a bout then I think that's a great sign that you can keep going, as it's not a constant problem, and IMO it shows that you are doing something right and that hopefully you can go at least another few months without another bout.

Thanks so much everyone looking through the info posted and getting back on the lethacin. Feeling more determined and positive today.

Probably had fed in a tighter top now and then without thinking so will be more aware of that too. Fingers crossed my b**bs play nice for a bit
