    Congratulations

My engagement was amazingly romantic and I'll never forget it but I understand about feeling cheated.

My DH won an engagement package for Valentine's day from a local radio station. Included was a helicopter to a secluded island, champagne brunch and photographer. Problem was I actually heard the winner being announced on the radio (they'd disguised his voice but I still know 'our' story). So I feel cheated because I ruined the surprise.

I can definitely empathise with you. We haven't been together as long but I always dreamed of a romantic proposal and I admit I was disappointed. It sucked even more when I helped DHs best mate plan the most elaborate proposal I've ever heard of.
However looking back there is no point feeling this way and the main thing is he actually asked and now we are married. I even now give him sh!t for it :P just try to enjoy the moment

Thank you for your understanding. I'm glad to hear you're married now. You're right, that is the most important moment, making those vows.

    Congratulations!!!

My proposal from DH was also really low key. (sorry for long post)

We had been together about 7 years. I had picked which ring I wanted about 2 years earlier, and I frequently printed it off the internet and stuck it on the fridge, under his pillow, under his dinner plate ect (cheeky I know) with little reaction from him.

One Sunday morning, we had been babysitting our 15mth nephew overnight, and I took him down the local shops, where I saw that 'my ring' was on sale, so I came home and naturally told DP.
A few hours later I was fiddling around on the computer (probably facebook) and he came into the study and this is the conversation that followed

DP: so i was thinking, if 'your ring' is on sale, maybe I should buy it for you
    me: WHAT!
    DP: lets buy it?
Me: what does it mean if you buy me this ring?
DP: it means that I love you and want to be with your forever, so lets make it official

I think it took me a few seconds to react with a squeel and a massive cuddle I was so shocked (2 years of nagging finally paid off)

Our nephew looked at us like we were crazy, then I had to wait for his parents to pick him up before we could go to the shops to buy it!

We then had our engagement party 12 weeks after we got engaged, and surprised everyone by getting married there and then

Good luck with your wedding planning

    Congratulations OneLove

Ours was in the car, driving home from his friends house. The conversation went a bit like this:

Me: No-one will ever want to marry me because they couldn't afford the ring I'd want.
DH: What do you mean? We better be getting married at some point.
Me: ... Um, are you saying you want to marry me? Like, be engaged?
    DH: Yeah.
Me: ... Ok! ... But our parents better meet first. And I want the deal sealed with a ring.
    DH: Ok

Those weren't the exact words but you get the general gist of it I went ring shopping with a friend that Saturday then bought him to the store when I'd picked one in his budget (not as pricey as I'd first desired!) and I put it on my own finger before we left the shop

Yep, straight out of a fairytale

    Huge congrats, OP!!!
Ours was a no fuss affair over a casserole dinner after six years together and we've been blissfully married for near on 9 years. Both our folks though had no fuss engagements (Think, so you wanna get hitched?) and they've all been married for nearly 40 years.

Thanks everyone - I'm starting to feel a bit better...

I think all the "oh my god, so how did he propose!!!" questions at work, kinda got me down a little too.
