Default low progesterone in early pregnancy

    Girls, I am pregnant!
However, my progesterone has dropped from 33 to 22. FS has put me on progesterone pessaries. Has anyone known a woman who has used these in their early pregnancy to support the developing baby?

I am so upset. I finally get pregnant, but now it's looking like it will end in miscarriage

Nini, I know there was someone else that had to do this recently and it all turned out fine. I think they were in the October testing thread? Good luck. At least your doc was onto it and u are on progesterone now. Congratulations ! X

Nini, fingers crossed for you. Has your HCG been rising? Doing IVF - nearly everyone who does it has pesseries or a progesterone gel so its very common in early pregnancy. Do u have about BT booked??

My HcG was at a good level at 19dpo.
I had a BT today (21dpo) to check whether HCG is rising and whether progesterone has also risen. However, because it's the weekend, I won't get my result until Monday, which is a pain! Very anxious to know whether the pessaries are working.
Can you still have a viable pregnancy if your progesterone stays around 22? Does it have to increase?

From when I was UTD last year, docs look for your HCG to double every 48 hours as a standard.

Congrats nini. I was just lurking on the thread and saw your post. I have pcos and tried for ages to conceive...anyway my story is in my signature. Women with pcos tend to have low progesterone and it is important with early pregnancy, up to 12 weeks when the placenta takes over. I am on pessaries until then and so far so good. I will be 10 weeks on Wednesday. Sounds like your Dr is taking good care of you by prescribing the pessaries and monitoring bloods.
Horrible thing is having to deal with the messy things morning and night. Progesterone goes out of your system after 13 hours so the Dr has me on them morning and night.
    Good luck!!!

silverdragon, I'm glad to hear you're pregnant and that it's all going well.
I know the pessaries are annoying. I only have to put 100mg in at night. Should I ask the doctor about the 13 hour thing? Maybe I need to boost my dosage to twice a day?
In the day time, how do you keep the progesterone from falling out of your body? Night time is easy because you're laying horizontally, but i'm curious to know how it doesn't leak out when you're vertical in the morning?

Thank you for your kind wishes Jb2011, No3please, miss_petepie, beccaboobang!
Please keep your FX for me. I hope you're all doing well xoxoxo

Hi nini the Dr may be taking a different path with the progesterone for you. It may depend on your bloods and if they decide to up your dosage. If they are monitoring your blood I think that is great then they can measure your levels.
Progesterone absorbs through the body through contact with the skin so as long as you put them in and lay down for 20mins while they melt you have exposed your body to it. My blood results always went up nicely with the pessaries. I presume you wear a pad with them in as they are so messy! At night your body gets a great hit of prog through laying down in bed.
I hope you get a sticky one as pco is so darn tricky with ttc. I know how it feels to have the disappointment and the anxiety with every step of the journey. At my 6 week scan I was convinced that the baby would not have a heart beat but there it was. It ishard not to panic. Take care of yourself my dear! That is very important right now.
