Hi all.. has anyone in Australia been on metformin? Do FS' s prescribe it usually for pcos women to help lose weight? Cos I am really struggling to lose anything (am eating right and exercise every day) but barely lost 5kg in a year!

I've only just started it 5 days ago and my god it's nasty!! My fs prescribed it and started at 1 tablet a day for 2 weeks then increase it each fortnight til I reach 3 tablets a day. My stomach and bowels are sooooo upset I have god days but when they're bad.. It's bad...

Weight is feeling better. I think I have lost cm's from water retention but weight is the same. I do feel lighter and not do bloated too

Metformin definitely helps with it, I was on 1000mg a day for 1 month and lost 6kg. But it's not a pleasant way to do it, and the smell......whoaaaaaa.......lets just say the gas might just drive DH away from the BD and there goes any chance of TTC lmao!!!!

Me: 33 (PCOS) and DH: 37 (Great)
DD: 16 years old; DS: 15 years old.

Taking a 6 month sabbatical from TTC, to get my act together!!

    Hi ladies,

its been a while since I last visited this thread,

fb- congratulations on the birth of your little boy, what an amazing time it must be for you and your family.

RKK- I have been on metformin for 10 weeks after being diagnosed with pcos in feb this year, so far I have lost 8kg and I'm feeling not as bloated.. It took me about 4-6 weeks to get use to the side effects which are nasty but I can say I'm feeling much better now,

im also on Clomid on day 3-7 50 mg but just found out that I didn't ovulate this month so I will bumped up to 100mg and than 150mg if 100mg doesn't work.

miss_petepie- it does get better, my Fs told me when I first saw him to perservere with it which I did (although there were a few days that I didn't think I could do it anymore)

although I didn't have a successful ovulation this month I feel positive, and all my hormone levels are balancing out from the metformin,

i have a good feeling about the next few weeks,

baby dust and good luck to you all

RKK - sorry I didn't really answer your question, I was prescribed metformin from my Fs after my pcos diagnosis came back that I have high insulin which is a result of the pcos, not everyone who has pcos has this issue.
metformin is a drug made for diabetics however it helps pcos sufferers who suffer for insulin issues. As per my last post - since being on metformin my hormones have levelled out and my insulin has reduced, which means 1. Helps me loose weight and 2. Helps my body to prepare for pregnancy (hopefully)

this is just my story, others may be able to assist you more?

Not sure if this will help, but I found eating as cleanly as possible helps not to get so sick from the metformin, steer away from packaged sauces and flavours eg. Mexican

it will all be worth it in the end if we get a BFP

My AF is due in the next day or so. If nothing by Monday then a blood test to see if pregnant.

I just saw my FS a couple of days ago and we discussed what we'll do if not this cycle, and my hubby and I decided we wanted to keep trying in injections for a few more tines before moving on to AI or IVF.

She is going to send hubby for a more specialised sperm test called a "wash" or something which gives more details but I'm sure he's fine and its just me.

So if we aren't pregnant by July she wants to send me for a laproscopy to flush my tubes and check for blockages which is a bit scary. Although I have heard that flushing the tubes can help you get pregnant so I'm trying to focus on the positives..

I wish you all so much luck and baby dust
