Default WAHM Bookkeepers - a few questions

    Hi ladies,

I have finally worked out what I want to be when I grow up! I know I need to get the qualification first, then set up my business and pay reg and insurance costs etc. Can anyone who has done this (and worked from home) help me work out how much the set up will cost? And how hard it is to get clients, and how long before you actually started making money?

I'm trying to do up a business proposal for my husband so he will "invest" lol.

    TIA xx

I can't answer most of your questions but I am currently studying cert 4 in bookkeeping which is what you need to be qualified to do this. Despite the fact I've run the books for 2 businesses I have found the course really hard and would advise that it be attended through a campus like Tafe rather than by correspondence. It's a 2 year course. Good luck!

    OMG. This is me. Exactly!!!!

I thought the course would be easy but I've been putting off looking at assignments as its just too hard.

Double entry bookkeeping sucks. I don't get it. Grrrr

    Wanna be study buddies??

Sorry for the OT OP. you'd be looking at $2000+books for the course. SEEK Learning do it for a bit more but you get a certified copy of Myob.

In order to become a BAS agent you need to work under the direction of an accountant for a specific number of hours too.

My only advice OP is to stay away from SEEK. There is no real benefit by going through them, they are a rip off. Go directly through OTEN or another recognised course provider.

Oh it's so hard. I'm about to apply for an extension as in the 2 years since I started (well it will be 2 years in December) I planned our wedding and now am due to have our first bub! Yes I also paid about the same so that's a good starting point as far as costs go.

I am through OTEN and have found them useless! I don't know if any other providers would be any better though.

I'm going through OTEN as well. I don't even know how to phrase what I'm having problems with so I can ask for help :s

How far through the course have you gotten?

I think it works out to be approximately the same, or just a little more - the SEEK course includes a licence for MYOB and all of the textbooks - I think there's about 8 that we need to get for the Cert IV

Default WAHM Bookkeepers - a few questions

I've completed cash and accrual accounting (the two units) and prepare financial reports and was granted RPL for technology in workplace and OHS. Currently (not!) working on BAS, professional relationships and one other I can't remember. I am going off the top of my head so hope those unit names are right. What are you up to? I feel so slack only getting 5 completed in 2 years I've just had so much on and I find it so hard to fit it in. With working full time and planning a wedding in 8 months, then getting preg 2 months later and suffering severe MS for first half of it I'm very slow hope they grant my extension request!

You are way ahead of me. I've done Design and produce business documents, OHS, and 2 of the 3 assignments for the first Establish and Maintain cash accounting system

I really need to pull my finger out.

Unless you want to send me your assignments and I'll just copy
