What has polygamous marriage got to do with gay marriage? And how does gay marriage affect someone who isn't' gay?

Default Tasmanian Lower Houses passes same-sex marriage laws

Words are very important, Gay marriage , i think , will finally allow society to recognize homosexual relationships and put them on the same platform as a heterosexual relationship

Exactly! According to father it's a slippery slope- gay marriage leads to polygamy and so on and so forth, the next thing you know, I'll be able to have two husbands, a wife and also be married to a goat.

Polygamy and Polyandry exists (although it is not very common in western society)- one legal reason I remember someone [a lawyer on Insight] saying he doubts it will beomd legally recognised is the difficulty in dealing with divorce settlements.

It really wouldn't bother me if consenting adults found living with multiple partners the best for them and their family, as long as everyone involved is being respected...I don't really know what the 'slippery slope' really means, a slippery slope to where exactly?? A more open and accepting society that might progress perhaps?

I think we really need to examine where our 'traditions' come from and what they really mean in our modern day society.

    Thankyou for answering that question.

Can ask you to do a favour?
Can you please provide me a definition for marriage which you would be happy with that would work?

Would you support polygamous marriage? I haven't heard anyone actually answer that question.
Yea I would. Because many people already live this way.
Whats the big deal. People have affairs all the time but if you want to look after that person and support them then it's wrong? Messed up much?
Who am I to say how many people you can love.

Can I just point out that it doesn't matter how against gay marriage you are, it's happening!

The plain and simple truth is that sooner or later it'll all be legal and you will be a minority.

Our country follows others like a lost puppy, and the rest of the world is embracing the change!

The emphasis on this issue in Australia means its only a matter of time

As a PP stated, polygamy is unlikely to be legalized due to the minefield of divorce, but sure.

For me marriage is about consenting adults making a loving, respectful and (hopefully) lifelong commitment to each other. It's pretty simple really. Marriage is about love and commitment. I don't care who you marry as long as you love them and are committed to them.

I agree. (we are just following each other around, being agreeable)
