Subscribing for now. Very interesting, so many books that look to be good reads too. I wouldn't call me a skeptic but I am a scientist, it needs to be proven, with hard evidence, before I believe.

I read his book on Mother Teresa recently, very interesting and I now twitch every time I hear her name used an an example of kindness, virtuousness or selfishness.

I also got the 50 Things book but from the entire list in the TOC I can't actually find anything that I think is remotely true anyway, apart from the very last chapter, "we're all going to die", which of course is true but I'm guessing they are using it in an apocalypse type scenario where I am thinking from a lifecycle perspective.

I'm finding "God is not Great" interesting. Hitchens is a harder read than Dawkins but worth the effort. There's been a couple of paragraphs when I've thought "what the?" and I've had to re-read, some with success, others not but that's ok.

So I finished God is not Great. It was a very interesting read. It's pretty much Hitchen's version of "The God Delusion" but I prefer Dawkins' more structured approach to the topic.

As mentioned previously, I recently read "The Missionary Position, Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice". It's appalling yet telling how someone can be so revered yet when you uncover some basic facts about her, she really wasn't the person she's made out to be. People died needlessly in horrific pain whilst in her care because she refused to get them medical treatment and allowing only asprin for pain (bearing in mind many people were suffering terminal illnesses. Furthermore she did not allow family members to visit the patients. She believed that suffering bought a person closer to Jesus yet when she needed medical treatment she was straight to hospital.

I'm currently reading 50 Things which I'm finding a little self absorbed on the part of the author. The chapter about the dangers of 'alternative' medicine and faith healing were the most interesting. Living with a person with a chemistry degree I already knew about the realities of homeopathy so that didn't come as any surprise. I was interested in reading about what really happened at Roswell though.

I know most of you will think this contradictory, but I am a Christian but also very skeptical.

Though, I must confess I actually bought an amber teething necklace in a moment of desperation. I had it for all of 24 hours before I thought 'what on earth was I thinking?????' I must have been pretty sleep-deprived at the time!

I love the pie graph I was shown in high school, the sections were:
What we know we know (the smallest section)
What we don't know we know
What we know we don't know
What we don't know we don't know (the largest section)

I still love the idea that there's so much out there to be learned as it's the stuff I don't know that I don't know.
